I went into Poor Richard’s Café on Sunday and I can’t complain about the waitresses or the food. It was good and prompt, and the waitresses were friendly. However, I was absolutely appalled at the way I was treated by the man who took my money at the counter. I had ordered hot water and put my own tea bag in it. I do this mostly because predominately restaurants use Lipton tea, which contains corn starch and I am very allergic to corn starch. So when we received our bill, we were charged for tea and I assumed the waitress made a mistake and forgot that she hadn’t given me tea. It was Sunday and decently busy, and mistakes are definitely made. At the counter, I pointed it out to the older gentleman at the counter, and kind of laughed saying I sound so cheap but I used my own tea bag, I didn’t order any tea. Instead of just saying “I’m sorry, but that is our policy”, I received an extremely rude attitude saying that if I bring my own tea I still have to pay for it. Disagreement with the policy aside, it was only a question and I absolutely did not deserve the rudeness. A simple explanation would have sufficed and I would have known for future visits. I also felt that he seemed surprised when I still tipped my waitress more than 20%, which also seemed like a completely unnecessary way for him to behave. I wasn’t being cheap; I was looking out for my very severe allergies. I absolutely do not deserve to be spoken to it such a manner and I absolutely will never be back to...
Read moreBesides the fact that they were completely out of any and all gravy well before noon on Saturday.... The server we had was actually very quick to be at our table shortly after we sat ourselves. After quickly delivering our drinks, she got our orders. I'd say in total, we didn't wait longer than maybe 7 minutes between sitting down and having our orders taken. The food took a a little longer than expected considering there wasn't a whole lot of people. (Maybe 7 tables including ours.) Which I definitely won't complain about, because the wait was definitely shorter than most breakfast places serving the same number of customers. The atmosphere, (The best way I could think to put it.) was rather outdated. Very old, and random figures on shelves. There wasn't really any kind of cohesive theme to the restaurant, just old random things, and a very large fish tank. (Which is honestly kind of impressive seeing as how it's huge, and didn't look super dingy or dirty. I wasn't close enough to see if there was any fish in it, let alone what kind. But I'd have to assume that since it's there and full of water that there is some sort of living fish in it.) Parking in the parking lot was nonexistent. But I had no issues parking across the street on the road. But overall, a...
Read moreFirst time at Poor Richard's! The fish aquarium was a cool feature that the kids loved looking at with large angelfish, tetras, a plecko, etc. The nautical decor was cool, especially all the model ships, the paintings, and fishing spear.
Service was good when the waitresses came around. We sat for a long time with just coffee and water before someone came to take our order. However, once the order was placed, our food did not take long to come out.
We came during breakfast time, so everyone ordered breakfast food. Everything was pretty good. The steak wasn't seasoned, so salt and pepper were added. Eggs were good, hash browns were good (could be a little crispier, but that is just a personal preference), pancakes, sausage, and bacon were a hit with the kids. In our family, when almost all the food ends up gone, it was good. :)
One recommendation for them would be to create a kids menu for smaller portions since the younger ones struggled to eat all of it.
Overall, a 4/5 and we would for sure go...
