My parents and my wife and I went to the Channel Marker on January 7th for our anniversary dinners together. My dad and I had the prime rib, which was the special, and my mom and wife had steak Alaska. For my wife and my mom, their meals were perfect. For my dad and I, the prime rib was chewy, and I ended up with the end piece, which was overdone. It has been 10 days and I am still so disappointed in the Channel Marker. We've been coming here for over 30 years. It is one of my favorite places. As the waitress placed that old lifeless shoe in front of me all the good memories seemed to fade. All the sudden I could see the dirty floors and the decor that is still stuck in 1980, and I could feel the cheap diner chair I was sitting on. When she delivered it, she saw the shocked looks on our faces and pointed at my dad's giant slice and my much smaller, burned slice and she said, "it's different because you got an end piece. I said, "the end piece?" And instead of hearing me, she dismissed me with, "well some people ASK for the end." As if what you should be using for beef and noodles is equal to a nice medium rare prime rib. Instruct your cooks that end pieces are unsatisfactory for a $32 prime rib. Instruct your servers to listen to the customer when obviously your kitchen is churning out scraps. Also, clean your floors and lose the 80's banquet hall chairs. My rating is more than fair based on this experience. My past experience with The Channel Marker is the only reason I didn't give...
Read moreWhat a gem! We heard about the Channel Marker from a friend, and had wanted to check out Syracuse anyway, so we headed to this waterfront restaurant/tiki bar.
The decor is a fun mix of beach/lake blie and white with a full bsr inside and a Key West-inspired tiki bar outside. I need to see this place when the weather is nice!
Service was excellent throughout. Quick on refills and to follow-up on food. They did everything right.
The menu was deep, with options for fish lovers and those who don't love seafood. It had a nice range of less expensive options, and full market price options.
It looked like most of everything was scratch made. The food was well prepared and had a good mix of flavors.
The clam chowder was excellent. I could eat a big bowl of thwt on a cloudy day. The cup size made a great appetizer.
The lighter fare fish tacos were excellent. I'm not a huge fish fan, but these were well done, with some spice hiding in the flavors with a mango salsa to blend in an island/Florida vibe. Tasty!
My wife's sandwich was equally as good with a creamy coleslaw topping. Great combination!
The key lime pie was superb. I'm used to ones so tart you could strip automotive paint with it. This was a subtle, almost custard-like pie with maybe cinnamon and nutmeg that paired well with the graham cracker crust.
All in all, well worth the hour drive to Syracuse for a date meal. I need to see it in summer. I hear...
Read moreTried this place for first time and very dissatisfied. Our waitress was rude from the start then after sweating do to no air conditioning inside and over paying for a dry steak i decided to open the blind next to our table 1 of many windows in the building. (After all we are on a lake) just wanted to enjoy some views if nothing else. I over heard a man aggressively tell our waitress that "we cant have that in here, its hot enough" she then came and closed the blind and repeating what the come to find out owner had told her. I didnt say anything just got the bill for 75 dollars for 2 drinks, my meal and my girlfriends meal... i asked our waitress who that man was she stated "the owner" i paid and left a 10$ tip then wrote a note on top of bill stating your owner should be responsible for other half of tip for his rude comments. We walked out to then our surprise our waitress came out after us yelling about the note stating the owner was her husband! and to never come back ect.... it was a very trashy and unporfesional scene on her part.... even if i were being unreasonable which according to several strangers and friends who witnessed the situation i wasnt.... Chasing myself and pregnant girlfriend down in the parking lot to yell is extremely unnecessary and honestly embarrassing for herself ... It is no wonder the place was empty on a saturday night in the...
