Went there a week ago and was about 6th in line. Didn't see a smiling face in the place. In particular the main cook was scowling at best. Waiting for 10 minutes the line barely moved. Commented to guy in front of me that it better be great BBQ because they are S-L-O-W & seemingly angry at the world. Had to leave b4 ordering due to emergency.
Returned 08.11.17. 3 guys in front of me. One in drive-thru. Super slow again to even take the orders.
Not a smiling face in the place except for one tall, very attractive woman with braids. Nice, warm smile & pleasant voice.
Cashier & cook seemed angry at everything & everyone. (Maybe the cook should watch the movie, Como Agua Para Chocolate...) After guys ordered their combo sandwiches & wait 5 minutes, the cook stated there is no pork. Cashier expresses frustration that she wasn't told but no apology is given. (It's just past 11:30 a.m. and they're out of sliced pork for sandwiches...Wow.)
I order rib tips & two beef sandwiches (no pork...) to go. Food comes in a reasonable time. Try my tips & fries in the car. Not bad...
Ask my employees later what they think of the food and one says, "Meh." Told him i had a 3 word review "Never go back."
Food wasn't bad but it was edible and there was no desire to overeat like i usually do with good BBQ. Good smoke flavor to meat but otherwise bland. The most boring sauce I've ever had. Were there sauce options? Don't know; i wasn't asked what sauce i wanted nor did i see on menu. Fries were OK & borderline good.
Place is dimly lit, dirty & a dive; not a good dive. All things considered, not a good $30 spent. With so many great BBQ places in KC (LC's across the street: Better food & friendly people), why settle for something...
Read moreI cannot recommend this place. My experience was unpleasant, to say the least.
My wife and I went first to the Blue Ridge location on Sunday at 6pm, thinking they would be open because their website said they would be open until 11. As soon as we pulled up to place an order, we were promptly told they were closed.
We were disappointed, but still wanted to give the place a chance, so we decided to head over to the other location on Blue Parkway. Again the website says they are open until 11 on the weekends and it was close to 7 when we got there. We were able to place our order, but every car after us (at least three I can remember) were ushered away because "we're closed" as one of the employees taking trash out said.
We ordered two burnt ends at first (they didn't have any, so we went with something else), then ordered an Italian turkey sausage with fries, a turkey on bun with fries, a beef on bun with fries, an order of cole slaw, and two onion rings.
After waiting at least a half hour to reach the window, we paid then waited another 10 minutes for our food. They were basically closing up shop at that point, so we assumed they got our order right and left.
When we got home, we were again disappointed. They forgot the beef on bun with fries and one of the orders of onion rings. What we had was okay, but it was by no means worth the wait or the price we paid.
I waited until the next day to call and express my frustration with the service and let them know of the wrong information on the website with regards to their hours in the hopes of reaching a manager. After two tries, I had no such luck--their voicemail box wasn't set up and they didn't answer.
I understand local restaurants are hurting at the moment, and mistakes happen. But I also want an establishment to try to make amends when issues of this magnitude and frequency occur. I try not to give out one star reviews, but Big T's...
