I've been thinking about writing a review about this coffee shop for a while now, but wanted to give it several tries before doing so because the first experience was not stellar. I like to give businesses the benefit of the doubt so I wanted to try it a couple more times.
Here are my observations: 1- Every time I have visited, the staff seems indifferent to my presence as a customer. They weren't rude but they also weren't especially excited that another paying customer had just entered the building. They served me and made a decent product, but I typically get a much more cheerful greeting at just about any Scooters Coffee and for sure at Hi Hat at 51st and State Line. Seems like the folks doing the hiring and training need to spend a little more time on the customer experience. In all cases, whether it's Crow's, Scooters or Hi Hat, the staff are on the younger side, but the other two do a better job of helping their staff make the customer feel welcome.
Added after reading other reviews - Zach et al at Crow's. You guys seem to have issues with your hiring profile. I highly recommend that you take these negative customer service reviews very seriously. If it isn't rectified, you will have little to no repeat business. And you know what that means...
2- I like a couple of things at a coffee shop; the ability to have a little whipped cream with my beverage, and the option to have a cold blended drink from time to time. Unless something has recently changed, neither of these are available. I've asked at each visit for whipped cream and the staff tells me, "We don't have any." So I'd suggest they add a blender or two and a few cold blended drinks to the menu, and go out and buy some whipped cream. Even the stuff in the can would be better than not having it available at all.
Finally, let me say that I really want Crow's to be a place I look forward to visiting. It's an important component to the redevelopment of the Red Bridge Shopping Center. All businesses there need to perform at a high level over the long haul to make sure RB stays alive and doesn't drift back to where it used to be. Nice building face lifts and new asphalt are just part of what it takes to revive an old worn out shopping area, and the developer has definitely done a great job in that respect. And there are some great new businesses, like Caleb's, that are doing well. I'd like to challenge the management of Crow's to step it up a notch or two and make sure they are a part of the success of the revitalized Red Bridge center.
So I will make a commitment to drop by at least a couple more times to see if anything has changed. But I'll wait a bit to give them time to work through...
Read moreGreat location. We have really been needing a coffee shop back in that area. Coffee is mediocre. Atmosphere is great unless the workers decide to kick you out after you have finished your coffee drink. They have very rude employees manning the front, and absolutely horrible customer service. I’ve visited multiple times, and my family members and I have consistently been treated like dirt by totally different workers at different times.
Visit#1. To preface this story, I hate being the costumer that shows up as a shop is cleaning up and closing. But this time I showed up at 8:34pm thinking maybe I’ll be able to get a drink before they cleaned up and closed(9pm). I walked in and asked if they had already started cleaning up the espresso machine and was told that they hadn’t cleaned them yet, so I then asked if I could order a drink. I was rudely told “no” and that they were “about to close”. I was truly shocked that they were willing to advertise that they were open till 9pm, but were willing to tell me that they didn’t want to serve me a drink almost 30 mins before closing and before they themselves confessed they had begun cleaning up. They were very rude and insulting!
Visit#2 2/6/19 1pm My sister went in and asked for a cup of hot water because she had a special tea she liked and had it brought with her. The workers started shaking their heads, and then they began to tell her how rude she was for bringing her own tea. She then explained that she was meeting a friend there and didn’t care for any of Crow’s teas. They stood at the counter and continued to rattle on telling her how rude she was insulting her for about 3 minutes. My sister later said she would have understood if Crow had a the policy not to give away cups of water, but to be called out in front of all the other costumers and told how rude she was and how she is a terrible person for doing something she didn’t even know would cause a problem is unimaginable. They could have very easily And politely explained to her that Crow has a policy that doesn’t allow giving water, instead of public ally bad mouthing her!
Visit#3 Multiple times worker are extremely unfriendly at the register.
I really wish they would hire friendly workers that didn’t act like the costumers were such a pain to serve and nuisance...
Read moreaverage coffeeshop with decent coffee. Hav been here multiple times and each time I order something that is classic/traditional, it is abysmally crafted. Everything from a cortado to a flat white, they have all been equally disappointing. What’s annoying the most is that I ask if they know how to make it, and they say yes. As I watch, the ratio is the first thing I notice being incorrect, but I give them the benefit of the doubt and think that maybe they have a unique technique based on the calibration of their machine and coffee being used. But then I watch them steam the milk. It’s as if they are just steaming it for steaming sake without regard to the proper aeration needed for the particular foam that is typical of the beverages I chose. Each visit, they would just steam it with little movement, and then proceed to just dump it into the espresso instead of layering it. Ordering some of the more sugary concoctions or an iced latte, the drinks are okay, nothing special or unique to them at all. The location uses Messenger coffee from what I saw and I haven’t been overly impressed with them. Overall, this is a decent, yet pricey place for coffee that has an inviting, somewhat spacious interior with patio seating. If you are looking for a specialty coffeeshop with skilled baristas, I would...
