El Torito Grill — Restaurant in Kansas City

I feel like I’m still being Extremely fair by giving them a three because the food and the tacos seem to be pretty consistent and awesome portions and very tasty. I put in DoorDash orders a couple times a month and sometimes more often that I’d like to admit. Sometimes I will call in because I will order my favorite Chelina salsa, As he used to be able to purchase their sauces and they do give you pretty good portions it seems, but that is my favorite kind and so I just usually ask if they can put it in extra or give me all chilena. I’ve even offered to pay for it and every time I call it seems like nobody speaks English and this time I got hung up on and they blocked my number. I called back from a second line and was pretty stern letting them know. I didn’t appreciate how I was being treated even if they told me no for my special request. She used the excuse of cussing to get off the phone and I said no I’m just standing up for myself because of the way I’m being treated. My question about swapping out the sauce for all Chelina Was still not addressed she just asked me what my name was and then said OK lol This place makes tasty food and I know you’ll keep coming back and they don’t care. I will keep calling and orderimg With respect until Im treated otherwise. Food is fire, but customet service for english speaking americans doesn’t seem to be prioritized or appreciated when i get hung up on. Maybe the first two people who picked up didn’t speak English very well and that’s OK. I was patient and smiling but when I got hung up on and my number blocked and I had to call back from a different number just to ask for my Favorite salsa I didn’t like that or appreciate that as a customer so that that’s why I gave them three stars. Came to from Texas for the holidays and was craving chilaquiles. I found El Torito through a Google search. Pictures and reviews were good so I took my family there. The restaurant was clean and we were greeted right away. Not sure if the heat was broken or just off. It was 37 degrees outside and it was not much warmer inside. The staff and customers were all wearing their coats. The menu was impressive! Living in TX and traveling to MX frequently we are quite picky. El Torito did not disappoint in the food department! I will say that my family had a bit of difficulty ordering their meals because the menu was in Spanish and our waitress did not speak English. She went to get someone else to assist. We ate quickly because our hands and faces were so cold. Delicious meal! No one ever came back after we received our food. I went to ask if we could get our bill and I waited awhile before someone came to help me. They seemed upset I came up to the counter so it was awkward. The total was $40 for 3 meals and 3 Coca-Cola's. I tipped $10 because the food was good and I felt bad for the staff because it was so cold. I did not appreciate the service we received. I speak basic Spanish and I did my best to communicate. I would have thought that the staff would have been more polite. I come here multiple times a week. I try to come in the morning when dining in, because the waitresses give me attention as soon as I walk in unlike the evening crew. I am a Black male. Today I'm here in the evening. I sat for over 10 mins waiting for a waitress. After waiting for 10 minutes, a group of people came in and sat at the table behind me. Within a minute one of the three waitress, that I'm sure saw me sitting there, grab multiple menus and headed towards the table behind me. she saw me looking at her as she was getting ready to pass me. she finally asked me if I wanted a menu. Another of the three waitresses was heading to the back table with complementary salsa and chips. She also saw me sitting there. she walked right pass me and put the dip and chips at the table behind me. This is why I try to avoid the evening crew. It's not the first time. it happens all the time. I believe in tipping people for good service but here in the evenings I have to force myself to tip. Hopefully management is reading this.
