Wilson's Pizza & Grill — Restaurant in Kansas City

DO NOT GIVE THIS PLACE YOUR BUSINESS! This place was a joke. My friend and I were looking for a good place to order pizza for delivery. Figuring that this place had good reviews, we called to order. Never took my name for the order and said they would text a receipt (which the never did) after receiving my credit card information. They say it'll be ready in 15-20 minutes. That time comes and passes and pretty soon it's been an hour, so I call and ask where our pizza is at. They say they are running behind and I said they should have given us a more realistic wait time then, and they apologize and say it'll be there in about 8 minutes. It comes 15 minutes later. Delivery man doesn't come to the door and calls to say that he's here. The pizza is not hot (barely warm) and EXTREMELY soggy on the bottom. It obviously wasn't fresh. We look at the pizza and it's not what we ordered. At this point I am furious, and then the pizza falls through the bottom of the very soggy cardboard. I immediately call them once again and tell them what happened and that I want my money refunded because it already came out of my bank account. The person who answered the phone and tried to give me excuses. They never asked for my name, but suspiciously knew it was my account to refund it to even though I called from my friend's number this time. They say that my money is refunded and text a receipt through paypal. Still waiting for the money to come through even though PayPal transactions should be instant. This was the worst service I have EVER...

Now this is a review about the restaurant. I have been able to travel fairly widely in the U.S. and even some in the Caribbean, Mexico and Europe. I love food so I like to try foods and local restaurants in my travels. Wilson's is such a place.

I love pizza and have eaten it almost everywhere. My favorite is wood-fired pizza but Wilson's rates right up there. My mother and I purchased the 18th Street Special (sans olives) and the Sausage Delight. The pizzas were very, very good. There was a good amount of toppings with good flavor and they were properly cooked (well done). The seasoning is very important and Wilson's has discovered and uses a very good mix. (Nothing worse than cardboard crust with tasteless tomato sauce with cheese on top). Again, I LOVE PIZZA and I could eat good pizza every week. Wilson's will be my new favorite pizza in Kansas City.

I actually grew up about three blocks from this restaurant but we moved away many years before the restaurant came into existence. Though the neighborhood has had some hard times, the owner and the people in the community ARE persevering. I actually had an opportunity to talk to the owner and see him in action. He is actually a part of the community where his business is situated and he is supportive of the community. Again I actually witnessed him in action. I truly hope that he continues to have success as well as increased support of and by the community at large. I will keep him and the community...

I shoulda' taken pictures, but I got food here tonight because we were hungry and always try to eat local. I didn't really plan to do a review, and in fact I'm writing this a few days later.

There were a lot of vestiges of the SCAMdemic... plexiglass dividers, etc, and that blocked a lot of the view of the kitchen/service area. That was disappointing, because the staff that night was a one man show... Maybe that was Wilson? I don't know the history of the joint.

Anyhow... he was working up several to go and eat in meals, and I would've LOVED to have been able to seem him work because I'm sure it was masterful!!!

We got a 14" pepperoni pizza and a triple-cheeseburger to go.

The pizza was appropriately greasy for a pepperoni pizza with a ton of cheese and good pepperoni, and the crust was chewy and crispy in all the right places!

The cheeseburger was incredible, and I cheated and had the bun... I typically avoid breads now as I mostly eat an animal-based diet of meat, raw dairy, organs, fruit and honey.

All three patties were hot, juicy, thick and consistent in flavor, texture, etc. Top notch!

Next time I'd like to order ahead and eat in... the restaurant has TONS of memorabilia throughout, and I'm sure there's a lot of stories!

Again, the separation between the kitchen/service area and the dining area is the only part that bummed me. I enjoy watching a joint like this do their thing...
