On a road trip from OKC to The Black Hills SD then to Shakopee MN we were eating "road food" chips, crackers, PB sandwiches, you get the point. The idea and subsequent plan was that we'd just 'wing it'. Never fails right?; except for when it actually does. My body was in protest, and in a rare moment of weakness (Dude, I'd been driving for houuuursss) I relinquished control to my better half at a truck stop in Rapid City, and the rest is legend.
Jay, unhappy with my concern about camping at a place literally called "The Bandlands" without allowing me to at least consult Trip Advisor, she began talking about real food, weird right? I did my duty as naviguesser and quickly found the Circle E Drive-In in Murdo. We arrived at 8:30pm and they were closed, advertised as 9pm.
Dude.
I looked ahead to the East on google and saw that the 605 Restaurant and Bar was nearby, and open until 11pm. Better yet, the burgers had rave reviews. Just a little bit down 90 we exited at Kennebec and found the 605. As far as I could tell, we were the only patrons. Upon entering we were greeted warmly by the proprietor, Tammie who let us know that they'd just shut the grill down for the evening, but would accommodate us if we wanted something from the bar. As tempting as that was, after 40 hours without sleep I would have passed out on the spot. Nevertheless, Jay doesn't take no for an answer and lamented the fact that I'd not eaten a proper meal in days to Tammie and we asked her what might be close down the road that she would recommend.
Tammie said "Well, the grill's probably still warm, here's a couple menus, order whatever you want." We asked her what the easiest thing would be for her and she insisted we could order whatever we wanted.
Wow
We placed our orders and waited. While waiting Tammie informed us that her beef was grass-fed, and hormone free and she doesn't use processed cheese. Within a few minutes we received our drink order and about that time, another couple walked in. Tammie greeted them kindly as well and informed them the grill is closing, but they could order a drink. They went ahead and ordered a drink, and after talking with them, she also offered to fire up the grill yet again!
I ordered the Mushroom-Swiss Burger and Jay opted for the patty melt.
Let me tell you something; I like a Mushroom-Swiss burger way more than the next dude, I PROMISE you. Tammie's MS Burger was easily my top 3, hell maybe even 2. That damn good. Jay also said her patty melt was easily the best she's ever had.
If you're ever east of The Badlands along I-90 and need a good meal, the 605 is an oasis...
Read moreI am only writing this because I had no reservation about coming here to eat. The reviews discussed how amazing the food is. YES, we had the best burgers we have had in a very long time! The kids' meal was honestly underwhelming for the price, but that's okay. She brought it out early, which was nice of her. My real intention for writing this is to mention that we felt anxious and unwelcome the moment we walked in. There was a "Restrooms only for paying customers" sign, which is understandable. But then followed by signs that read, "Please do not ask for the restroom key before ordering." A little extreme, especially when you've had your kiddo hold out for a while when driving. Also, I found the sign that said, "If you can't be patient, ask for a job application" to be a little snarky. There were many more informational signs that followed this pattern. Not the atmosphere I hoped for after a very long day of driving with little ones. However, the decorations were so fun and added a great vibe to the place! The lady was overall nice, though busy as it was just her doing everything. Would probably come back if driving through and needed a sit-down place to eat because the burgers...
Read moreThis place is the perfect example of why you should not judge a book by its cover. We were driving cross country and had planned on getting dinner in Wall but realized all the restaurants would be closed by the time we got there for the night, so we started looking for somewhere and found this place on the map. We were immediately intrigued by the mix of reviews and mentions of Miss Tammy, but as two gay men we were very nervous to stop at a Trump bar in the middle of nowhere. We kept looking for somewhere else to eat, but there is nothing for 30+ minutes in any direction, so we decided to risk it. Pulling up, we were sure we had made a grave mistake, but we couldn’t have been more wrong. Tammy made us feel as if we were long lost family, and she and Jane went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. I had the Mushroom Swiss burger and my husband had the Black and Blue burger and they were both incredible! There is a ton of Trump decor inside, but Tammy talked to us about how she wishes everyone could be kind to each other and respect each other. She is such a genuine person who truly cares about her business and her guests. We will absolutely come back here any time we are...
