It was our anniversary dinner, and, long story short, our first reservation we had made for dinner didn't work out (rhymes with kite farm bin)...
We called This amazing place, we're immediately met with a very friendly voice over the phone, who made it a point to accommodate us.... Not just accommodate us, but make our night extra extra special. With a window table, some of the most friendly service we've ever had,
..... And a four-course meal to die for.
No pompous rigamarole, or ego-filled loud tables...
Just incredible, amazing chef-inspired dishes, some of the best cocktails we've ever had, along with the wine pairing menu That made things extra special,
Coupled with a view of the ocean, And while the place did get a little busy, we felt like we were the most important people there, which I know is a skill in itself.
Highly recommend this place, for a special celebration, or just for a special night out.
Pictures of the dishes to follow! The fact that we did not have to make reservations more than a month out, I think this place is a special gem to be celebrated, and I can't encourage enough people to come and experience what we experienced.
Thank you especially to Amanda our server, and the lovely French hostess who answered our call and took care...
Read moreWe have dined at Ocean a number of times before, it has been our favorite dinner out in Kennebunkport in past years. The views are outstanding and the atmosphere is terrific. Unfortunately this year the service was lacking (not previously a problem other summers). Our server was very sweet, however we often had empty water and cocktails/wine and were left wondering if we had been forgotten as the timetable between courses seemed lengthy. It was evident that the level of training/service was not on par with the pricing of the menu (almost $500 for two people with tip). The meals were good overall although perhaps not as terrific as prior summers. We also had breakfast in the restaurant one day. This was just “ok” and once again, the server was sweet but it was clear there had not been much training. Coffee was never re-filled, it took a long time to be greeted, order and receive the check. Lastly, the happy hour menu on the porch (which has always been my favorite part of our trip) had a mediocre menu as compared to prior years and cocktails were just “ok” (again, they were great prior years). The view is still outstanding, but our experiences this year left a lot to be desired, especially at a high...
Read moreWe had an okay time at Ocean; in our opinion, the quality of the food & service is misaligned to the cost. I had the dover sole, which required a supplement ($), and it was incredibly bland - hardly any flavor. The best thing on the plate was the gnocchi, which there was not much of. My husband had the halibut, and his was very tasty! I wished I had ordered something else.
Additionally, despite the fact that we were celebrating a special occasion, we were given a pretty bad table (and there was a window-front two-seater corner table available with nobody in it). My husband is 6’5 and we were squeezed into a tiny table in between two other couples. Again, the corner table with more legroom for my husband was free….. disappointing.
Finally, we watched as tables that arrived and ordered after us got their food before us. They even had the same exact orders, but were served first. Eventually our waitress came over to address the delay and said it would be coming soon. At that point we’d been seated for over an hour and 15 mins.
So, is the ambiance nice? Yes. Beautiful views? Check. Service? Mediocre. Food? Hit or miss, and not worth it at the...
