Kennett, Missouri’s Downtown Bistro is quite a surreal experience in dining excellence. Here, you’ve stepped into another world. And it’s one of the kind of things you would wish to see in every restaurant.
I’ve been in town a couple of weeks, found out about Downtown Bistro 3 or 4 days in, and every visit (and there have been many) has been absolutely amazing.
It all starts with correct leadership; it always does, right? Here, the owner operator is from Greece & he’s an extraordinary mentor to all his staff, a great & imaginative chef, apparently a visionary (as evidenced by his careful & innovative design of the restaurant; including interesting photos of the township’s history) and of course, the menu of Downtown Bistro includes delicious dishes for every taste. Everything is delicious— as well as beautifully presented.
In short, I love this place. And the people who work here are just entirely competent, thoughtful, accommodating and good people.
You’d think that each employee was from the same wonderful family…but instead, these thoughtful employees are simply fantastic people who’ve been kindly trained to work in a harmonious work environment. Very amazing experience to see. And dine in.
And if all the aforementioned weren’t enough, the owner himself is a true international war hero. His name is Christos Panagiotidis. This man is singularly responsible for decisively taking charge on the Grecian-Turkish border and for personally saving the lives of a group of innocent young girls attempting to migrate & who were in harm’s way on the border. This man personally intervened & stopped the unnecessary use of deadly force. He saved their lives. Period.
In short, this is really one of those great places.
So, if you’re considering the Downtown Bistro, go ahead and head that way. The people, the food, their friendliness, thoughtfulness and ambience are all together just a marvelous experience.

Read moreMy family and I from out of state. We were in the area for my mom‘s funeral who grew up in Kennett in the 60s. We were looking for a place to have lunch afterwards, and came across this special place. They aren’t open for lunch on Saturdays, but agreed to open for our larger party. I can’t say enough good things about our time spent at the Downtown Bistro. The inside is very charming and one wall is covered with historical pictures from the town. Our servers name was Jade, and she took excellent care of us. Request her station if you’re there for a meal. She was so kind, got all of our orders correct, and never let our glasses go empty. The food was really good too! We loved the toasted ravioli and alligator bites for appetizers. The drinks were good and very reasonably priced. Everyone seemed to get a different meal, but I know there were zero complaints. Everything came out perfectly made. I had the pasta carbonara and it was decadent. We are so appreciative to the owners and staff for making a very difficult day a little brighter. Our mom would’ve loved dining...
Read moreThis is a true 5 star review. Great experience overall at Downtown Bistro. Came in 45 minutes before close, a bit under dressed, but still greeted warmly. Menu is pretty vast, I chose the daily special New York strip steak with asparagus and loaded baked potato based on waitress recommendation. Did not disappoint! The steak was tender and cooked just right with great seasonings. I hardly ever order steak because I'm a bit snobby with steak and don't think most places cook it well. When I do order steak, I never order New York strip. But I was pleasantly surprised with the best New York strip steak I've ever had! Asparagus was good and so was potato. With tax and tip it was about $32. The owner came out and spoke with me for a while. Good conversation. I'll be back for sure and want to try the steak pasta dish next time. You should absolutely try...
