My sons and I are on a quest for the best burger on earth. However, since we live in Kentucky, we are starting with the best in Kentucky. My two teenage sons and I decided to drive to "Burger Barn" in Irvine. We drove straight there from Shepherdsville just to try their burgers. We first heard of them while reading an article in "Kentucky Living" magazine titled "Back Road Burgers: Kentucky’s best cheeseburgers for $5 or less". With traffic it took us around 3 hours and 10 minutes to get there. Upon arrival it had a very nice "neighborhood" burger joint/ice cream store vibe. While deciding what to order, the wind shifted and blew the most wonderful burger-esque smell into our car. My mouth started watering immediately upon receiving that aroma. We all settled on double cheese burgers dressed with lettuce , tomatoes, and raw onions. The burgers had no dressing of any kind on them. We just shrugged it off and assumed you had to request mayo or something if you wanted a dressing. I also ordered potato wedges, my oldest son ordered french fries, and my youngest ordered cheese sticks. The food was ready in a reasonable amount of time, and the staff was very friendly and would have received 5 stars if the below "lettuce" issue hadn't occurred. However, upon opening the food, things went a little downhill. First all three burgers had soggy buns from what appeared to be water, not meat juice or grease. The only thing we could think of is they didn't properly drain the lettuce before placing it on the sandwich. My first bite was a little disappointing, the burger had very little seasoning on it and it was overpowered by the toppings. I removed the toppings and continued to eat the burger. Even with nothing at all on the sandwich it was still very bland. The burger itself had a very good caramelization with a delightful crunchy edge. And sadly my wedges were barely salted and tasted just like the generic house brand at the local big box wall store. My son's fries were the same way. Neither one of us finished our sides. Both were properly fried and crunchy, but were bland. My youngest son's cheese sticks were wonderful. They were properly fried and crunchy with melted centers, and came with a very good marinara sauce upon request. The price was reasonable, we had 3 double cheese burgers, 3 sides, and a 4th double cheeseburger we brought home for a family member for around $35.00, also, the portions were large for the price, and none of us left hungry. Overall, the atmosphere and price were nice, but the food was disappointing... especially after a 3+ hour trek to get there. When we got back home, after tasting the burger we brought back, our other family member said "Now I am glad I didn't ride all the way there with you". Before we left, we ordered 3 milkshakes to drink on the ride home...my oldest had a strawberry shake, my youngest has a hot fudge shake, and I had a pineapple shake. Both of my sons loved their shakes and were very pleased with them. My shake was good, but could have used a little more flavoring. The shakes had a nearly perfect consistency...they were thick, but not to the point of causing the straws to collapse while drinking them. Overall, the shakes turned out to be the best part of the meal. Other people have had much better experiences and left better reviews. Hopefully, they just happened to be having a bad day while we were there, or maybe we had too high of expectations. In the future, we may try their food again if we happen to be in the area for other reasons. But I will definitely not make another special trip for their burgers. If we ever do try their food again and have a different experience, we will definitely update our review.

My wife and I ate here for the first time, referred by a friend. We both tried the fish sandwich box, which came with slaw and fries for her, and onion rings for me. We didn't care for the slaw. The slaw dressing tasted like bland mayonnaise. The onion rings were great, and the french fries were pretty tasty. Next was the fish sandwiches. There was no tarter sauce or cheese, nothing but more of the bland cole slaw. The fish filled was huge, but also bland. We turned it over and put on a full packet of salt and a couple packs of ketchup, and it helped it slightly. A couple, and a gentleman sat at the table next to us and they had burgers that looked really good. We will try those next time. Lastly, we ordered ice cream, which we were told would be great. This was the BEST part of our meal. Wife ordered a chocolate cone, and it was HUGE, and Delicious (she gave me a bite. I ordered one of the BEST peanut butter milk shakes I've ever had. It tasted like they scooped out the center of a bunch of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and made it into a shake.....Outstanding! Prices were very reasonable, and staff treated us well. We told them it was our first time there, and they walked us through the process. We will be back to try it again, but will avoid the cole slaw next time, unless they change the dressing. And, we will save room for dessert! All in all, it was a good experience.

We didn't drive there but Shelli's sister had to go to Irvine today for some reason and since I passed Burger Barn several times while I was working as a temporary Clerk for the USPS back Christmas 2020, we asked her to pick us up two double burgers, some crinkle fries and an order of onion rings. And we are so glad that we did. These Burgers absolutely hit the proverbial spot for us. Two hamburger Patties each fully dressed on wonderfully toasted buns and while we didn't even notice until we were halfway through but they weren't even dressed with any condiments on top and you know what??? If a burger is this fantastic, which THEY WERE, it doesn't even need ketchup, mustard or mayonnaise or anything else on top of it!!! NOTHING AT ALL Lots of flavor some lots Grease, grease, see bag photo for details😉lol WHICH IS A MUST when you are hanchoring for a big greasy burger. And it satisfied. So did their crinkle fries & wonderful and slightly well done onion rings. They were cooked to perfection. We are definitely going to have to find a reason/excuse to drive 30-miles east of Richmond & make it back to Irvin Kentucky to have another wonderful greasy meal at Burger Barn. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!
