First and foremost, the lack of stars has nothing to do with the waitress(Madison). She did a great job. As other establishments are right now, they were very understaffed and even had a sign announcing this fact at the entrance, but come to think of it I believe it said very very short staffed; OK fair enough. Considering this Madison did a GREAT job...
Because the girls insisted, we got fried pickles as our appetizer. I'm not a fan of fried pickles, but I liked these better than others I've tried. They were sliced longways and seasoned well.
I particularly liked my sirloin; It had just the right amount of pink and a really good flavor that I found no need to enhance with steak sauce. The baked potato was delicious. Aren't the all the same? You might ask. No I don't think so, and this one was cooked just right.
The salad wasn't anything special. All lettuce, hardly no tomatoes, no cucumber and I had to ask for a few extra onions.
My youngest got the chicken Alfredo and she was pleased with it. My mother and my oldest got sirloin steaks like me only They both requested medium well and both thought they were over cooked. So if you like your steak with a little pink, ask for medium, like I did.
What spoiled the experience was the temperature of the room. We all froze to death. I asked about getting the thermostat adjusted three times while we were there. I had mentioned it to Madison twice, and once I got up and told the door greater thinking since he wasn't so busy, he might be able to tell the manager, but we continued to freeze the entire time. For the record, I am not a cold natured individual and neither are my daughters, and yet we were complaining right along with mom.
I should have asked for the manager and discussed the temperature with her myself but I didn't think about talking to her until we were getting ready to leave. When I asked her about it she said that no one had mentioned it to her. Well they really should have. I hope she educates the staff on this. What good is the best steak on the planet if you are too cold to enjoy it.
I didn't think about taking pictures of my food, but of course my youngest did incase you are interested in the...
Read moreOur visit was on Sunday March 26,2023, approximately 6pm. We were told our wait time would be about 15 to 20 minutes. There was probably about 10 people in the waiting area. This was strange since there were empty tables and booths visible. I am disabled and cannot stand for long periods and there wasn't any more seating in the waiting area so, I informed the greeter that we would be going to the bar area while we waited. The bartender was quick to bring us our drinks and asked if we would like to order our food. We figured this would probably be faster so we placed our orders. We weren't ever asked if we would like some peanuts while we waited. My wife and I each ordered a salad and they were brought out right away. We ordered a colossal onion to share and we each ordered a steak and baked potato. We finished our salads and ordered our 2nd drinks while waiting for our onion. After our 2nd drinks were almost finished, they said it was going to be another 20 minutes on the baked potatoes and would we like to sub something else. So we took the mashed potatoes instead and I mentioned that I'm still waiting on our onion. Our steaks came out with the mashed potatoes and after we were almost finished with our meals ..... the colossal onion comes out. We were never offered any dinner rolls and people that arrived well after us were getting them. So I asked for a go box for the COLOSSAL ONION and asked for my check. They were kind enough to not charge us for the onion and I was kind enough to still leave a tip. Not sure what the reason was for the long wait times on our orders and then to be told our baked potatoes had 20 more minutes, or why we didn't get the onion til we were finished with our meals, but I do know this for sure. I could have driven to Shepherdsville and ate at Cattlemens and had a wonderful salad bar and a great steak and still got home an hour sooner. And I live 10 - 15 minutes tops from Coltons ! The worst experience I've ever had...
Read moreOn our trips we normally do not eat at chain restaurants, however on a recent trip to Springfield, KY we did have dinner at Colton's in Bardstown, KY. We arrived for dinner around 615pm. We were greeted by a very friendly hostess. They were not very busy so we were seated right away. The decor of the restaurant is western and the music they play is country. That was one fun thing that I found, the booth that was behind us had a family of four sitting at it. The gentleman at the table would occasionally sing along with the music. I thought that was pretty neat. You don't usually find that kind of comfort in a chain restaurant. We started our meal with 2 appetizers: Fried Pickles (Dill slices coated in Colton's seasoned breading and fried to a golden crisp. Served with spicy ranch dressing.) and a small order of Cheese Fries (Steak fries layered in a blend of cheeses, topped with bacon and green onions. Served with spicy ranch dressing for dipping.). We enjoyed both of them. I really liked the spicy ranch that went with the Fried Pickles. I also liked that they used Steak Fries for the Cheese Fries. For dinner I had the 10oz Ribeye with a side salad and fried okra. Jenni had the New York Strip with a side salad and a loaded baked potato. Our steaks were cooked perfect. The seasoning that they use was just enough to enhance the natural flavor of the beef. I loved the salad- everything in it was fresh. I loved the crisp of the lettuce. Jenni enjoyed her loaded bake potato. She said that the potato texture was smooth (not grainy like some baked potatoes). The fried okra was just so-so. I know when you travel to the area, you usually are looking for a yummy local place to eat. I think you should be open to giving Colton's a try. If you traveling with a family, there is something on the menu for everyone. The prices are very affordable. I recommend Colton's for a nice, affordable, and...
