Saturday night my fianceé and I went there with friends of ours, another couple, after church and we arrived there at roughly 8pm. A paper sign on the front door said "kitchen closes at 9 for maintenance - sorry for any inconvenience". According to Google the kitchen closes at 11pm. So having seen the sign I expected to see something that would lead me to believe they were about to do or have some maintenance done, but there was nothing like that. Anyway we were greeted by a hostess and we asked for a table outside and we were led to the patio. We received menus and ordered drinks and got our drinks. My fianceé order pulled pork sandwich and fries, the other couple both ordered salads, and me being a wing fanatic and seeing the highlight "voted best wings in The Burgh" I of course ordered (6) hot wings and a side of fries. The menu said JUMBO wings, and there was a choice of fried or smoked wood fired and I ordered FRIED. So the rest of the table's food came out in reasonable time and I was told my wings would be right out. Everyone waited for my wings to come. About 10 minutes later my wings came. I was disappointed right away because a plate of wing dings (half wings not jumbo) were placed in front of me and my side of fries was a smaller portion than the portion that came alongside my fianceé s sandwich. Still I wanted to dig in because the hot sauce smelled so good. First the were NOT fried. When you fry wings the skin gets a little crispy, these were like chewing on fat, so they had to be broiled or even microwaved. I gave the benefit of the doubt because after all "voted best wings in The Burgh" rang out in my head. (And I realize almost every place that sells wings says that on their menu). These things were raw inside, not even close to temp on the inside and pink, chewy, and just overall disgusting. I wasn't even going to complain but soon the server came over and asked, "so how is everything?" I answered, "not done". She apologized and said they'd be taken off the check. She didn't ask if I'd like anything else or offer an alternative. So for Saturday night dinner I had a small order of french fries and ketchup. I was very disappointed. I'm guessing they didn't offer anything else because at this point it's after 9pm and their kitchen was probably torn down for cleaning I'm guessing, or the "maintenance" had already begun. The dish was, however, taken off the check. I left very hungry, and the staff was not very friendly. The staff wasn't rude by any means, bit given the situation in my opinion staff was not very congenial or helpful. I wouldn't go back nor would I recommend this place to anyone. This was my first visit to Sunny Jim's and it wasn't very...
Read moreI went here on Easter Sunday for Brunch with some of my family. The food was good enough, and the service good enough. We decided we were going to come here again for Mothers Day, this time for a total of eight guests. Upon arriving at the "Tavern", the lady seating reservations tells my mother of three, who raised her kids on her own, "We don't have anything under your name", "Nope, no reservations", and just stands there. After another debacle, the lady at this point, sighing and making noises says "Well you're going to have to stand over there and we'll see if we can accommodate you". My mother told the lady she had called yesterday and left a voicemail wanting to make a reservation, to which she's told "We don't check our voicemail". Multiple hostesses or waitresses were not only rude to my mother on Mothers Day, but also to my grandmother. Even the owner or manager told my mother "We have 50 voice mails, we don't check them". Well if you don't check your voice mails, then why are you telling people to "Leave a message"? When a business tells you to leave a message, the expectation is that the message is going to be returned, or at-least heard and noted. Terrible customer service, and terrible management. But hey, no problem, our family went over to Eat 'N Park down the road, and took our $200 in business elsewhere. Think we'll be back? Nope. So collectively, just one customer, one family, coming to your "Brunch Events", is potentially $1,000+ a year, for just 8 people, at each event, for 5 events. Think of everyone you disrespect, and how much potential business you're losing out because you do not have the most basic of customer service skills. Us coming there isn't going to make or break your business, but over the years, all the customers lost will add up, all the bad referrals to friends will add...
Read moreMy puppy is sick and so I stopped in for a bite to eat while the vets take care of him.
The first and most important thing I can say about this restaurant is that it is clean, well maintained, and that the owner is clearly very involved and cares a lot. There's a review a few spots below this that someone stood at the greeter stand to be seated and no one showed up. Well, they had a button installed. If no one is there, please press the button. That is an owner who cares and that's amazing to see.
I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich and fries with a side of ranch. Needed some comfort food and it hit the spot. The tomatoes were crisp, the lettuce was green and fresh, the roll itself was very nice. The actual chicken filet was a bit on the small side for the roll, and I think I might have preferred some more buffalo sauce - BUT this item is in the menu as a wrap (or on a roll) so I think maybe it's more well portioned as a wrap. Still, I'd order it again. It was very good. The fries were served crispy and hot, and their ranch is very high quality.
The table I sat at was exceptionally clean, the greeters and servers were very friendly. When my drink was 3/4 empty the server showed up with a refill before I requested. I appreciated that a lot.
All in all a 5 star experience, if you're looking for some comfort food or a nice place to get some food or drink with family and friends, I highly recommend...
