My previous five star review - Excellent food and service, I made a meal of sampling various appetizers. Try their specialty house martini if you like something with a little spice kick.
Previously our favorite local restaurant, we had a very disappointing experience on a special Valentine's Day outing.
This quickly became our favorite restaurant after moving back to NePA last year, so was our first choice in planning a Valentine's Day outing. I called for a reservation about ten days ahead of time and inquired about the menu - was told there would be a special 4 course menu for take out, and the regular menu available for dining in. We didn't want 4 courses and made the reservation with expectation of the regular menu. Upon arrival we were seated right on time but informed that the expensive 4 course meal choices were the only option. In hindsight we should have left then and there but we opted to stay in expectation of what would surely be a fabulous meal for the price.
The crab cake appetizer was served with only the tiniest bit of the champagne aioli that makes it so good here, not the normal serving. Our party's other appetizers were ok but nothing special.
The salads were excellent, and the highlight of the meals.
I chose the NY strip entree, my wife and daughter opted for the Chateaubriand option, all medium rare. I was served an oily steak that was seared tough on the outside and gelatinous raw on the inside - so squishy it was difficult to cut with the provided steak knife. The Chateaubriand meals were similarly under-cooked. Our server, very attentive up to this point, never came by to check on the entrees.
My daughter chose the offered creme brulee dessert, it was served in a laughably small dish about 2-1/2 inches diameter. Other desserts were ok but nothing special.
The tab for three people and a few drinks with mandatory 20% tip came to $340.00. Any premium steakhouse would have served a far better meal for that price. We felt like Fire and Ice was focused so hard on cashing in Valentine's Day that they lost their focus on what previously made them our favorite local restaurant.
The experience left such a bad taste in our mouths (no pun intended) that we won't...
Read moreI ate at fire and ice for an anniversary dinner. It was okay, but overall my least favorite of the Friedman group restaurants. My partner and I started with drink, I had a dirty vodka martini with blue cheese stuffed olives, it was drinkable but I’ve certainly had better. My partner got one of the specialty cocktails, the black magic woman. She seemed to enjoy it, but it seemed more like a novelty drink than a good, sophisticated cocktail. The complimentary focaccia bread was dry and I need half a glass of water to choke it down. And the butter served with it was sickeningly sweet. For appetizer, we got the stuffed shrimp. This was the star of the show to me and was gone in about three minutes. The crab stuffing was delectable, very fluffy and flavorful. For entrees, I had the scallops, as it is one of my favorite food and I enjoy getting it when I go out of my way for a fine dining experience. It was paired with a black bean, corn, and quinoa mixture. It did not pair well with the creamy tomato sauce. I was skeptical when I ordered but thought I’d give it a chance because I love scallops so much. If they’re looking to have a gluten free option with the quinoa, they’re much better off pairing the scallops with a polenta or risotto. The scallops were not great quality either, and to get 4 for $41 I expected excellence. My partner had the shrimp risotto, which was actually excellent. It was decedent and the sun dried tomato sauce was absolutely stellar. It was a hefty meal and the perfect serving size. So, overall a half decent dining experience. The food was good enough, but with the lacking ambience and steep prices, I can’t say I’d eat here again. Especially when restaurants like Cork, Kevin’s, or Beaumont are in...
Read moreI've been to this place many, many times. The food, service, and prices were always excellent. A few weeks ago, I went for dinner and the menu was different. All of the old favorites are gone and the prices have been raised by a significant amount. I got a salad and it was decent. The person I was with got the special. It didn't come with soup or salad and it was over $30. I was not happy about the prices or the menu change but decided to try again. This time, I had the branzino. the picture is below. The fish is about the size of a 6-inch ruler and the sauce under it was dried out. There were about 4 potatoes (cut in half) and a half of a cup of veggies. Another person in our party got the short ribs and they were very fatty and salty. Again, no soup or salad included - there is an upcharge for that now. There were 4 of us at dinner and the bill was almost $120 and no one even had an alcoholic beverage or dessert. The branzino alone was almost $23. Fire and Ice used to be a good place to go with the family and get a nice meal for a decent price. But, they have cut the portions, increased the prices, and skimped on the extras. Basically, it's too expensive for what it is. If you want a very good meal for a good price, go elsewhere. Fire and Ice isn't worth what you...
