If you have food allergies I wouldn’t eat at this restaurant. My server confidently took my order for a burrito that instead of having its typical 10 ingredients it would only have 7. The manager took over and returned to verify my allergy and that all 7 ingredients were safe for me to eat. My burrito arrive 10 minutes after the rest of my families food, I think it was forgotten because I had to ask for it, and my burrito was plain white rice and chicken only. I returned it asking for the rest of the ingredients and the server and I giggled because clearly there was a miscommunication. The second burrito contained 5 of the 7 ingredients so I kindly asked the manager to please put what was missing from my burrito into a box with the current burrito because my family was done eating and wanted to leave. He insistent on remaking it to my liking and I asked him not to, everything was fine just missing two items, my young children were just ready to go and I was happy to eat and assemble it later. He returned with a new burrito and said “I made it with all the food you’re allergic to in it and I really hope you’re able to try and enjoy your food at home” and he noted he wasn’t charging me for it.
The final burrito was only sauce, cheese, chicken and rice- 3 of the 7 components that were suppose to be in this burrito. The sauce was on the danger list, so he clearly stuck it to me. This is not simply a conversation about food preference, I am allergic to items and asked for them to be replaced with others to maintain the value and quality of my meal. I went out with my family excited to eat Mexican food and ended up eating my son’s fries for dinner. We’ve eaten here in the past and had great service and food, but manager’s unwillingness to communicate with the kitchen staff and then punishing a customer...
Read moreWe dined at the restaurant around 5pm on 9/11. My wife stops in there about once a week for food and a sangria. We both ordered entrees. My chicken Caesar salad was without flavor and the chicken was dry. My wife said her enchilada plate was off and she literally gets this once a week. We ended up sending them back and just ate the chips and salsa. Waitress, who was nice, asked if we wanted the manager to come over and speak with us. We were trying to have a relaxing night out and declined that but said she could notify the manager of the issue. A bit later the waitress came back with the check along with a gift card and she apologized again for the food. To my surprise, both meals that we sent back, after taking a few bites of, were still on the bill. Really? I understand you gave us a gift card, but you are also charging us for meals we didn't eat or like. I would rather you just take them off the bill and we probably would have come back another day chalking this meal up as an off day. What if we decided after the dinner to not go back....then the gift card you gave us is useless and we ended up paying for a bad meal. Anyway, we paid the bill, left the waitress a 25% tip, and left the gift card with the check on the table because it really rubbed me the wrong way on how it...
Read moreI was tired of the same old same old for lunch, so I (native Texan) decided to finally give Cancun Family Mexican Restaurant a go. If you couldn't sense the reticence in my previous sentence, well, let me be clear: I'm exhausted by trying so many well reviewed Mexican restaurants around here to only be invariably disappointed. CFMR is no exception.
I got a pretty standard fare - steak tacos and chips. The tacos themselves lacked a depth of flavor and the beef was inconsistently seasoned. The star of the show was the guacamole sauce they've added to it which was actually quite good. But the thin cuts of bistec couple by a rather anemic portion led to what was ultimately not a great taco, but also nothing offensive. Average. The fresh chips were good, but the salsa left much to be desired. It employs what I can only guess to be smoked paprika, and it was very paprika and tomato forward, leaving little room for the other spices and ingredients to have a shot to shine. That being said, a couple of people from my office apparently love the place. Maybe I just haven't tried enough to know. Maybe they just weren't on their A-game. Or maybe everyone else who grew up 2,000 miles from the border really just don't...
