I had driven by the Bluegrass Restaurant many times on my way here or there... And I had always wanted to stop, I just didn't have time. So this evening, when trying to decide where I'd go for dinner... That little restaurant in Lacenter came to mind instantly.

If heard that they had amazing catfish, and had great reviews from the people who had told me about it. And I thought what the heck... I'll take a little drive for a mom and pop restaurant. This night was no different than any of the other times if seen it. It was purely busy. I found a spot to park in the back and walked in.

The crowd was friendly and quick to smile my way. But who impressed me the very most was the owner who was out in the establishment talking to the customers. She quickly made her way over to me and greeted me with a friendly smile. She told me how they had been in business for 70 years and how they had a larger menu, but that most people came for the catfish, as they had for the entire 70 years.

And the food was amazing. I did, of course, order that catfish and was surprised how much food I'd gotten for a little over 10 dollars with a drink. The catfish had a nice cornmeal batter and was flaky and delicious. It came with beans, cornbread, coleslaw, french fries, hush puppies and an onion ring. I was shocked how much was there.

I had a great experience, and will 100% certainly make that drive again.

As a catfish diner, one of the best Oreos I've had, from TX to varied Southern states! Plain crispy cornmeal coating, no extra enhancements, thickish flaky fish inside, so little grease you'd wonder how they did that! Vegetable oil vs peanut oil (anyone allergic to vegetable oil, please note), but still very well-prepared. Accompanying cooked cabbage very much German-style with thick real -bacon pieces, giving it a slightly sweet flavor; crunchy cole slaw with balanced mayo, real cornmeal hush puppies that complement the no-frills cornmeal white beans as topping. And the desserts! Fresh as can be strawberry pie, 3-mixed nuts ( tree kind) pie and Greek-imported baklava! And I generally dislike sweets, but must call these out as that day's house desserts. I bought all three, plus the largest catfish order of 6. No alcohol, but you can survive on the local farmer-fresh coffee. Family-owned/run, friendly efficient trained service, some regular patrons, clean restrooms, ample parking. I got lucky finding this. Other varied menu items, including breakfasts. But was I...

Ok so it was me and 3 other guys from work, we're from Ohio been working around the pudacuh area for almost a week and 2 of our contacts at the DoE recommended The farm. Well the farm was closed and had a lame food truck not what we wanted. So I suggested this place since we drove right pass it.

I'm glad I did. First off the people working and eating here are extremely friendly and welcome you like good neighbors. Made me happy to be greeted with smiles and hellos.

Place has that ol dinner feel, plenty of room for people and groups. Booths were comfy place was clean.

Waitress was extremely nice, and made sure we had what we wanted and if anything was wrong or we were missing something she take care of it.

Now I ordered the 6pc catfish so did another co-worker and it was fantastic, they weren't burnt, they werent over breaded, and every bite was delicious. The slaw was amazing too. Other coworkers said both their chicken and steak meals were great as well.

Highly recommend anyone passing thru to stop here. You'll have a delicious meal and be surrounded by some...
