I was hyped to try The Acadiana in LaCoste as I was told it was the same as the one that shut down on 410 in San Antonio.
We arrived, party of 3, around 6:30pm. No one greeted us at the door or bothered to guide us in the proper direction for seating or ordering.
It is a seat yourself establishment, but the sign is at the very front door when you walk in and we did not see it until leaving. But we stood at the entry to the restaurant ( a little ways away from the entry door, where the sign is located) for approximately 15 to 20 minutes waiting to see if someone was going to seat us. Several wait staff passed us up and did not mention it was a seat yourself.
The restaurant was full, so we were having to wait for a table also. They have very little seating. There are approximately 9 tables in the 1st area. Two had been pushed together )making it 8 tables) to leave room for the musician that would be playing later. The 2nd area had a private party. There is outside seating but it was raining and it is not covered.
We eventually got lucky and the diners at the 2 tables that were pushed together offered us to sit with them. We graciously accepted.
To order food you have to stand in line at the bar, order and then the food is brought from a food truck or something outside. We ordered our food at 6:49pm and did not receive it until 8:15pm. One hour and 25 minutes is way to long to wait for a meal. The "wait staff" didn't stop once at our table to see if we needed anything. I probably would have had an issue leaving a tip because all they did was deliver food to table, like at a fast food restaurant but you are asked for the tip when you pay at the bar.
I ordered the 3 piece catfish with red beans/rice and cabbage. To drink I had water and 1 margarita. The margarita was weak but I like my drinks strong so that just may be me. The cabbage was very good, the red beans tasted like they were out of a can (possible Blue Runner) and the fish seemed to be over fried in old oil.
It is a cute little restaurant combined with The La Coste City Hotel. I was hoping I would enjoy it so I could visit frequently but doubt that will...
Read moreI was a bit disappointed by this restaurant reincarnated. The food is fine, what we ordered tasted good. But being a regular at the San Antonio version of Acadiana Cafe that closed I felt a bit cheated by the new La Coste version. It is no longer a cajun restaurant. The only Cajun dishes I saw available were the M-F daily lunch specials. Now more an Americana cafe. And itâs interesting to visit. You enter into the La Coste Hotel bar, and order food at the bar. Then find a table (inside or out). The bartender takes your order ticket to a food trailer outside, then brings you a beeper and your drink order. Once your beeper goes off you need to go out back to the food trailer to pick up your order. The ruben sandwich ok, kinda thin but everything present. The chicken fried steak fingers were good, but had small pieces of beef inside thick breading. All tasted ok, well cooked and seasoned. Just was hoping for some Ă©touffĂ©e and fried okra. I understand different owners than the San Antonio version, so maybe in the future might get its...
Read moreSurprised my wife on our 19th Wedding Anniversary and drove out to LaCoste TX for lunch... called day before and reserved a table, which they said wasn't necessary but they do take reservations, and when we got there they had a table in a back room waiting for us....table 19... with a Happy 19th Anniversary small table placard...very thoughtful. Diana ordered the chicken fried steak, it was delicious.... I ordered the catfish plate....it was not up to the old Acadiana Cafe standards... small catfish pieces, a tad over fried no real flavor other than the catfish itself and very small hush puppies.....the coleslaw was just cabbage with mayonnaise...it was still good but not as delicious as the catfish plate I was expecting...but I know they are working with the old Acadiana owner to bring it back up to Acadiana standards. We will visit again soon, a good, quaint dinning experience.... everything else was âââââ stars...the food âââ...
