I disliked my treatment at Vesuvio.
I picked up my pie, but did not feel the heat coming out of the bottom of the box like a properly done hot pie should be. So, I went back in to mention that it wasn't hot enough.
Right away, I could see the guy behind the counter getting his back/temper up....even before I explained my issue.......as I approached the counter carrying the pie I had just bought. I mentioned that I thought it wasn't hot enough because the box wasn't hot. His response was to describe the kind of pizza in the box. This was nothing to do with my issue, but it was a stall for time I guess. Then, are you ready? He opens the box and puts his finger on the crust of the pie to test for temperature! Uhh, Jeez, maybe you should have licked it with your tongue to test the temperature? He then says, "it's hot". So, I take the mauled pie back home and it was good and warm, but not hot......just like I asked for help with.
So, explain to me how not offering to put the pie back in the oven and help me out is a good way to go. That's all the situation needed......put the pie back on top of the oven or even in the oven and, ba da boom, the problem is fixed, I get a hot pie, the guy doesn't need to put his finger on the crust, and I am a happy customer. It must be important to get the money for the pie and then never touch the product again in an effort to minimize the cost of that pie?
Jean Shepherd described this behavior best............aggressive noncomprehension.
So, I recommend you order on the phone, then leave immediately with a police escort to go pick it up so that you are there even before the pie comes out smokn' from the oven so you can have that...
Read moreIn April 2014, I relocated back to the New Jersey Shore. Coming from a major metropolitan area, finding local eateries with decent gluten-free options has been difficult. At Vesuvio, you'll find an authentic and casual dining establishment - large menu - and a great tasting Gluten Free Pizza Option! For about $13, you get a decent size personal pizza with up to 3 toppings you choose! My choices included ricotta, mozzarella and broccoli and it was GREAT.
My family members enjoyed non gluten-free options - there are many - from many salads and pastas to hot or cold subs, lots of pizza choices, entree's and appetizers. Desserts are not to be missed and include Homemade Tiramisu and Cannepoli.
If you dine in, the small dining room serves everything on the menu in a very casual format. I would have guessed our server was maybe the owner or certainly a long-time employee. She was great! It's a no frills space, but perfect for enjoying the great food (complete with a nice mural, I presume of somewhere in Italy). It's BYOB, so bring along your favorite bottle of wine to enjoy with the many Italian dishes. Don't be fooled by the strip mall location, you'll enjoy great food and service at Vesuivio - and for gluten-free folks, an option for delicious pizza made your way. Skip the chains, and try Vesuvio for a casual night...
Read moreI haven't had a wide variety of stuff on the menu, but the Grandma's Pie is one of the best I've had, and I just love the 'hot honey' wings; even for a delivery order, they arrived super crispy. I asked for the pie to be well done, and crispy throughout, and it WAS! So hard to get this point across to other local pizzerias... This is what MAKES IT. If you're looking for boneless wings, you're not going to find them here. Your only choice is a chicken tender "platter" w/ fries, and they can do them buffalo style for you. That's OK, I guess, if you wanna pay for all that...but not ideal if all you want is the chicken. I think the prices are a tad steep and they charge CC fees here. Use cash - don't let that cost be passed on to you. That aside, the food is always as I expect it to be, and whenever I pick up our order, the staff has always...
