We had some guests come in from out of town and we wanted to try somewhere different. It was TERRIBLE. I don't understand how people are giving this place more than a 1 star review. The dining room upstairs was hotter than hell - we were actually sweating at our table. Asked the hostess and the server on more than one occasion to turn the air on. We intentionally chose a table inside because it was hot out, it was actually more comfortable outside because of the breeze.

That was just the beginning. There were 4 of us -our food came out one dish at a time in 10-15 minute intervals. One person had steak, that came out first. It was over cooked and the cabernet demi glaze was a brown gravy. 15 minutes later the pasta came out. At that point we started eating without the other 2 dishes and shared with our group. Then the grouper dish came out, then the sushi.

We said something to the food runner about the dishes coming out one at a time and he said the server had our food on different tickets and last one was only submitted 6 minutes ago and said "its not our fault in the back". We had empty glasses at our table and no one took them or offered refills.

By time the server came to check on us we had no more water or drinks and we complained about how the dishes were coming out staggered and the steak was overcooked (ordered MR and came out MW and tough) and she didnt take accountability. I said, I understand the pasta and sushi coming out at different times - since theyre coming from other kitchens, but the grouper and steak should have at least came out together and she didnt have anything to say about it. She blamed the kitchen and offered to take the steak back but we didnt want to wait another half an hour to finally eat together.

One person at the table had the pasta night special and ordered a second dish and at that point we also ordered another round of drinks and a key lime pie. The runner brought the dessert out and dropped it on the table without clearing our dinner dishes. The "key lime pie" was a cake...which is not what you expect when you order pie. We had to call someone over to clear our dinner dishes and empty water glasses because the table was a disaster mess.

I have worked in both casual and fine dining and another person at our table was a catering manager. We know how food service works. The service we received was completely unacceptable. When the check came, we were kind of expecting some kind of a discount, especially on the steak, which was very over cooked...but nothing.

We will not return. between the blistering heat in the dining room, the poor service and the food being over cooked and not great- it was just one too many things to give this place a...

As many others have stated, flavor is inexistent. The food’s aesthetic leaves a great deal to be desired—however, upon tasting you quickly come to the realization that it’s all show and no woah. Forget trying to revive the flat lined cuisine with sauces, etc. as I had attempted, because 2 of 2 were both lousy. What a disappointment that was, considering I had only ordered the coconut shrimp FOR the raspberry horseradish! My palate sensed neither raspberry nor horseradish, more like air flavored, whipped cream cheese. My boyfriend believed he received his Thai Chili wings without the glaze so he dunked one into the extra side of sweet Thai chili sauce, only then realizing the wings were never naked.. now what does that tell you? I have no more synonyms for the word “flavor” (or the lack there of) so It’s safe to assume I’ve made my point crystal clear. After trying my hand with the hot food I decided to delve into my beet salad. This salad was beautiful at first glance, however underneath all of the garnishes I uncovered black, wilted, slimy leaves (see photos). I was in complete and utter disgust and currently still am. I am dismayed beyond belief, it’s one thing to serve lackluster flavor profiles but to price the menu items substantially high and accompany those dishes with aged, rotting greens is inexcusable. Quality control is clearly a key issue concerning The Waterfront restaurant, my suggestion is for the chefs: “START TASTING the food you send out!”, because something tells me, the kitchen’s line does not eat this garbage, that, or they just simply do not care. Thank your front of house staff for being exceptionally thorough and gracious, I would give them 5 stars and for that reason alone, you’re restaurant is receiving an overall...

I came here to write a review because I feel the good ones are so much more important than the bad ones. So here goes the ambience of this place is perfect for a restaurant down the shore. It’s on the water, it’s outside inside, they have a fantastic bar, they have those pretty lights everywhere, you’re overlooking boats and yachts, service is friendly and friendly paced And the food is top notch! It’s friendly enough to bring kids. Big enough to host adults only. This place would be great for Parties. I’ve actually been to a party here before. Their seafood tower was amazing. My favorite was the crab on the seafood tower. They had general tso cauliflower, I loved the chicken dumplings. We ordered the sushi and a huge family “boat” which was a really nice presentation. We had ordered it with the appetizers and then forgotten about it because it came right after the hot appetizers. But we made room. Their menu is expensive so there’s something for everybody. I can really not stop raving about this place. And it’s big enough so that it can accommodate a lot of people for big groups. The price point is great. And make sure to save room for dessert. And don’t forget the espresso martini. Not too sweet, but the perfect ending to a meal. Just want to say thank you toe the owners Joe and Heather. You can tell they put their heart and soul into this place and the energy is contagious. Can’t...

First time here and hugh let down. Spent $90 on dinner for 2 entrees and one appetizer (Duck wontons) and 1 lobster bisque. The location was amazing. The reviews I think are friends or they just like the Ambiance of the setting on the water and such, because the food is another story. The entrees we're a let down. 1.) The chicken used in the Teriyaki bowl was for sure frozen store bought strips of chicken. The way it cut and tasted was horrible. For $30 I'd imagine i get real cooked on premises chicken. The vegetables also had to be bagged frozen vegetables. The whole bowl tasted like a freezer bought TV dinner from Walmart. 2.) The other meal was a seafood pasta special. It was the same as the chicken bowl but for $34. Nothing special or FRESH for the price paid. Insaneee. 3.) The lobster bisque had 0 lobster in it. $9. It was a Puree. 4.) Duck Wontons Appetizer was the only good dish we ate this visit. $19. No complaints on those. 5.) Dinner rolls were also very dry. Not sure how any chef would be happy letting these high coast frozen store bought ingredient plates leave the kitchen. The ingredients used should be much better and fresh for the price paid. (I see references to the chef all over the place of how great he is. This meal was a joke) I also had a stomach ache after eating that Chicken teriyaki bowl. Very disappointed.

My wife and I are on the #eatjersey challenge to have a meal in all 564 towns of NJ. We chose The Waterfront for Lacey Township (aka Forked River), our 107th town. Located on the Forked River, it was rated by the Asbury Park Press as a top "dock & dine" location. We don't own a boat, so we just dined, but we did see plenty of boats by the docks. If you're looking for a fun night out along the shore without trekking over to one of the island towns, The Waterfront (ironically on the mainland) is a fun place to be. They have indoor and outdoor dining with live music. We dined outside on the deck during sunset on a summer weeknight when it wasn't super crowded. We kicked off by enjoying dockside cocktails, with $4 Margaritas & a VooDoo (rum) Bucket. Next, we had the Lobster bisque and shared some apps. The Eggplant Napoleon & General Tso's Cauliflower were superb vegetarian options (even though neither of us is vegetarian). Finally, had the Hot Honey Chicken sandwich with crab meat as a topping. YUM! Town Trivia: Forked River is a "census designated place" (CDP) within Lacey Township. Like many other CDPs in Jersey, Forked River is NOT its own town. Yet many people refer to most of Lacey Township as "Forked River, NJ". Tip: The locals pronounce it "Fork-ED River". Calling it "Forkt River" let's the locals know you're a benny. ;)
