FroSmokes Meatery — Restaurant in Lacon

I was reading "An Economist Gets Lunch: New Rules for Everyday Foodies" and he had three rules for finding great BBQ.

They open early and have limited hours to sell out as fast as possible. (Check.) Find them in a town of less than 50,000 people. (Check.) Great ribs are more common than great brisket, because brisket done right takes hours. Ribs can take just 90 minutes. (Frosmokes has both)

I wanted to test these rules and looked around to find BBQ in Illinois. My uncle lives in Lacon, and I was just itching for an excuse to visit, so I swung by FroSmokes on the way. What do you know? The three rules are spot on. I'll be back for the pulled pork.

Wow. No disrespect to Smoking Pit in Peoria, but FroSmokes has made it to the top of my list for BBQ in Central Illinois. Mouthwatering brisket, perfectly smoked. It was served with a side of sweet BBQ sauce, which was also delicious. The meat can stand on its own, but I do appreciate a good BBQ sauce. For sides, I chose the cheesy potatoes and the broccoli/cauliflower salad. I love a place that has amazing entrees and equally amazing sides. You could make a meal out of the sides...the perfect cheesy flavor, not greasy, served piping hot...the broccoli/cauliflower salad...the perfect "healthy" side to accompany the meat and potatoes. Just the right amount of sweetness, not too heavy on the dressing. FroSmokes is more than worth the drive from Peoria to Lacon. This will be in my regular restaurant...

Called and received no answer which is fine, assuming they were busy but when i got there not a soul in the restaurant. funny. maybe they don’t answer calls but maybe that’s something they should advertise that just a thought. so i came in ordered food, seemed to be out of almost all the sides, still that’s fine just again something that should be put out there especially when they were out of so much. I ordered brisket and ribs, a very small amount of food for a hefty price i’d say. the food was very dry and unflavored. reading the reviews make it seem like it is good food but maybe we caught them on a bad day. very disappointing, i’m new to this area and was hoping to find...
