Tray's Garden Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Lafayette

My review/opinion from our dining-in experience on 7/11/24 at 7:20pm. New owners, new bright atmosphere, and food tasted great! No buffet - which doesn't bother me. I suggest everyone going in and forming their own opinions, as we all have different taste! Service wasn't top notch - we were never checked on during our meal. Hopefully, that gets better as they adjust to being open and juggling orders. They are in the process of getting their Coke machine hooked up, but still had drinks to serve from 2ltr bottles. We waited a little while for our food but you could tell that everything was made fresh when ordered. We ordered 3 different meals, and it all tasted great - very flavorful, in my opinion! The pork fried rice had actual eggs and vegetables in it. My husband said the General Tso's Chicken was hot & spicy, exactly the way it should be. They literally wouldn't let us order what we wanted, they ordered for us. Looking back now, we should've just left. I ordered sesame chicken & the woman told me I wanted general chicken & claimed it was the same thing. Then the person I was with ordered chow mein & the server told him those are crunchy & that he wanted soft noodles. He explained that he knows that & wants the chow mein. She insisted he didn't know what he wanted & that he wanted the soft lo mein noodles. Eventually we gave up trying to order what we really wanted. Then they tried to take our appetizer plates before we were done with them. & Don't even think about refills, they'll never come back after that. Second time to dine here. The first we dined at Trays was about 6 months ago. We went with a couple who dine here often and are known by the owners. Our service was excellent, and the waitress checked with us often to refill drinks. We decided to eat here and was disappointed with both food and service. Ordered 2 bowls of hot and Sour Soup and Fried Dumplings. Bowls were large, but unfortunately, it was mostly broth. Big disappointment!! Fried Dumplings, I'd rate at 6. No one checked on us to offer refills of tea. Was too tired out from busy day of working in yard to flag down waitress for refills. Did ask for 2 teas to go, which we got. Had they asked me how my meal was, I would have expressed my opinion on the broth only soup. Oh well, we will be marking off...
