Overall I wish the Hansa leadership would staff differently and enhance their existing technology. Generally, it takes about 20 minutes during peak hours (8-10-am) to get a basic coffee drink which can be frustrating. Beyond that, I will describe my past 3 experiences:
There was a group of folks waiting for their online orders (again, things generally take a long time) and the two gals were looking at a cell phone and laughing instead of making drinks. Because I had to get a train, I politely asked if they could please make my drink versus chatting among themselves in which one of the girls reluctantly made my drink and then told me that it, âwasnât her problemâ that I had to get a train. I agree my work schedule isnât her problem, but when you are employed at a coffee spot steps from a train station going every 30 mins to downtown Chicago during rush hour, I would assume realizing the importance of time to some customers is part of the gig.
Their app was down and the usual 20 mins took about 30 mins per drink. I ended up abandoning my drink because I simply couldnât wait any longer.
I ordered 20 mins in advance via the app and when I showed up they didnât have my order. Fortunately I did have 10 extra minutes and hoped they might go a little bit faster but alas another drink abandoned. I would legit pay extra to have them make my drink faster but they act very confused any time thereâs even a little bit of a rush implied.
3 stars is a generous rating given my personal experiences but I typically try to be as unwaveringly positive as possible about local businesses. They score points for location and the atmosphere is fine if you are a retiree, stay at home mom or otherwise have a lot of time to kill. I might suggest some customer service training for the staff or to instill some sort of sense of urgency during peak hours in particular. It might make sense to invest in some grab-and-go options in their...

Stepping into Hansa is like walking into a paintingâa swirl of aromas, textures, and soft, golden light. The air hums with the gentle hiss of the espresso machine, as though itâs breathing life into the space. Every cup of coffee feels like a story, a burst of rich huesâearthy browns, citrus yellows, chocolatey blacksâpainted onto your palate.
And then, thereâs the wine: deep reds and shimmering whites, glowing like liquid sunsets. Each sip is a brushstroke, bold and delicate, unraveling its character slowly, like an artist revealing their masterpiece.
The people here move like actors in a timeless play: the barista, an alchemist; the customers, silent poets in thought; the clink of glasses, a percussion of human connection. Even the pastries, golden and flaky, sit on plates like still-life studiesâart youâre invited to devour.
Hansa isnât a cafĂŠâitâs a fleeting, sensory dreamscape. A place where coffee and wine arenât drinks but emotions, where time folds into itself, and you leave carrying the memory like a pocketful...
Read moreAs a budding coffee nerd, I am always recommending Hansa to friends. They have an excellent selection of freshly-roasted coffee beans (roast date is on the bag and usually is within the current week), sourced from coffee growers around the world.
Their selection of coffee drinks range from classic drip, to pourover, to classic espresso drinks, to sweet flavored espresso beverages. My favorite is their cortado (equal parts espresso and steamed milk, for an espresso-forward drink with a velvety texture).
A tip for ordering their sweet flavored espresso drinks: If you enjoy a more espresso-forward flavor, order the small size; if you prefer to taste more of the milk and flavoring syrups, order the large size. They do not change the amount of espresso between small/medium/large, so you can control your flavor preference by the size.
The baristas are always friendly and knowledgeable, and they do an excellent job with whatever...
