It was a special date night, Olivia's was recommended and so I made a reservation...
Unfortunately the night was spoiled by a cockroach on the table!
Yes I know this is Florida, but I have never in the 4 years I've lived here had a cockroach crawl across my table right after they serve the entrees.
I called the waiter back and asked him to do something about the cockroach that was now on the wall and crawling towards my date. The waiter asked my date to move aside so that he could hit it. He tried and missed and it ran towards me. I was about to smash it myself but the waiter got back over on my side of the table and was able to swipe at it three times before on the fourth swipe - he nailed it.
He scooped up the now flattened cockroach and left. About 15 minutes or so later (I'm assuming it was the manager), came by to ask how are meal was. What does one say to that when a cockroach was just smooshed on the table. Near our dinner plates which haven't even been touched yet.
We ate and left, skipped dessert... I can't believe they let us sit there while they killed a cockroach on the table. Then did absolutely nothing else. They did not replace our meals with fresh ones, nor ask if we'd like to sit someplace else. There was no discount or acknowledgment of the event on the bill whatsoever.
I suspect the waiter was afraid he wouldn't get a tip if he told the manager or the hostess and they comped the bill. I don't know, when I was a kid I was a waiter and I could see that happening. So I didn't cheap out on the waiter's tip. On the bill they suggest 18%, 22%, 28% tip amounts (a practice I despise, I can do math). I gave him 20%. The bill came to just under $120.00 with tip. That was for two Mai Tais, breaded shrimp appetizer, two of their chicken dinners - and a German cockroach.
The cockroach seemed pretty healthy running across the table, if he was moving slowly I would have known he was at least poisoned. But this guy was a star athlete!
Nice job Disney (sarcasm)! You might want to look into this... Maybe contact the Board of Health?
If there's a cockroach on the table with my food there is probably more in the kitchen. I certainly hope neither I nor my date get sick because of this.
The Wonderful World of Disney - always full of surprises! I look forward to seeing a mouse at Disney - not cockroaches.
Very unhappy and grossed out. Zero stars.
If you read this, think twice about eating there.
UPDATE: 07/26/2023
I'm still waiting and hoping for Disney to contact me about this. I want to discuss this with them so they can address it properly. I'm not looking to be compensated, or be a jerk, etc. The situation is embarrassing for all of us. Luckily my date has grown into a relationship since this writing. Disney - please contact me and I'll remove my review. I hope you will take action at the restaurant, train your staff better, and look into the pest problem (if there is...

Most of the staff congregated right behind where we were seated, and our server didn’t tend to us. It’s like for whatever reason he was assigned to us, away from the rest of his tables. Unfortunately, we got the short end of the stick. When we asked for more rolls, he must have forgotten, and then never came back. When I advised that we weren’t interested in appetizers, because we were going to save room for dessert, he never once came back after our entrees were served to ask what we would like for dessert. Then, a fellow from the kitchen brought out the desserts, later the waiter came to check in, to finally remember that out of the four desserts, the child’s ice cream was omitted. He quickly brought it out. However, two out of the four of us ordered the banana bread pudding, which is supposed to be warm, served with ice cream on top. It was cold. Which defeated the entire point of the dessert. It was not pleasant. Instead of checking on us to see if everything was fine, the waiter was quick to drop of the check and state “got too much??” When I stated no, not the case, it’s advertised as served warm, and it’s cold...and it’s not good and not what I ordered. He was nice to take it off, but didn’t bother to offer to fix it. I would have rather be ask to replace the dessert, and serve it as it was advertised. They were friendly, don’t get me wrong, however they could have made it a more pleasurable experience. We could have chose anywhere for Christmas Dinner. This particular night, it was cold outside, and also cold in the building, and food also got cold fast. Cold ham, green beans, lukewarm mashed potatoes, and stuffing isn’t that great. Could have been better. All in all, it was a “meh” experience. Don’t think we will...
Read moreThis has always been one of my favorite restaurants at Walt Disney World! Growing up, my family would often come here for breakfast. I remember them having the absolute fluffiest pancakes and their frozen cappuccino was just wonderful! It's been several years since I've had their breakfast now, but my husband and I come every once in a while for dinner and we are always impressed. We ALWAYS get the conch fritters. They were a little too bready this last visit but usually they’re perfect. The Duval Burger was his favorite but they've since taken that off the menu, along with the pasta I used to get. lol But we still find great options each time! During our most recent visit, my husband got the Captain Wahoo's Catch of the Day, a pan-seared salmon, which was absolutely phenomenal and I got the Cayo Hueso Shrimp Pasta which was very good as well. The portions are always fair, too, and I typically make at least two meals out of it. Their dessert options are great too, including a Key Lime Tart which was just the right amount of sweet vs sour, and the Tropical Chocolate Tart which really stole the show for us. It was truly rich in just the right way and rather unique. We come back time and again not just for the food, but the relaxed, homey atmosphere. The Cast Members are always very friendly and treat you like family, a staple for DVC properties. I also really love the beachy decor and family photos of DVC Members from over the years lining the walls. It makes this place truly stand out in the best way, even in a company with more dining options than you could probably ever experience. I highly encourage you to give it a try and hope it becomes a tradition for your family as it...
