El Mariachi — Restaurant in Lake Mills

Food was fresh but very mediocre tasting. The salsa they serve with the chips tasted like tomato sauce with barely any seasonings. Hubby and I both ordered a margarita and a shrimp chimichanga that came with refried beans and a "salad." The refried beans was about two tablespoons' worth. The "salad" was a pile of limp shredded iceburg lettuce with one slice of a tomato on it, plus a dollop of sour cream and a dollop of guacamole. If you pulled the shrimp out of the chimichanga, the shrimp was grilled and tasted good. But the chimichanga over all was very bland. The margarita was flavorless too. If they would just buy Jose Cuervo margarita mix and serve that instead, that would be a considerable improvement over these margaritas. The service was just as bland as their food. The waiter only checked on us once right after our meal was served and he never came back, not even to bring us our bill. We finally gave up waiting for him and just went up to the cash register, where he produced our bill instantly. We were not impressed with this place. We won't be going back.

POST SCRIPT EDIT:. I am absolutely befuddled at all the four and five star reviews on this place. The only thing I can possibly assume is that these poor folks who think this restaurant is so great must not have been to many authentic Mexican restaurants in their lives and just don't have anything to compare to. Trust me folks, there is MUCH better Mexican food and margaritas out there in the world than this...

The food was delicious! Our service was crap. Our waiter was Cesar. He had no personality and was rude. I had to ask for a kids menus three times. We had to ask for refills which seemed very inconvenient for him. When I asked for more chips, he rolled his eyes. We were never asked how things were, if we wanted anything else, etc. When we got our bill, he made sure to circle the suggested tip portion. We split our bill between two people and while doing so he made sure to circle the tip portion again multiple times. He was very adamant about getting his tip. He was impatient that we split the bill and when asked why it was not split accordingly to half and half, he tapped on the door aggressively at the sign saying there is a credit card fee added on. When given a cash tip, he was not appreciative and just said "thanks" then walked away from the counter. Only reason for 2 stars on service is that the order was right. Very disappointed the food is not as good when they first opened the place up. It has really gone commercialized the food does not have much taste besides everything tasting spice hot when it should not on some of dishes. It was supposed to happy hour all day Saturday which we were charged full price. The refried beans we found a hair in it. Told them about and they only gave us 10.00 dollars off. Most places would have not charged you for the meal that the hair was found in. The prices have gotten higher and they are nickel and diming the customers for everything and they also charge you for using your credit card. High prices for very poor service. We asked for glass of water several times, never received any water. They brought our food out and we had to ask them for silverware and when we asked for the silverware they looked at on why do we need silverware.
