REPLY to the Owner: I ordered three (3) entrées today for THREE (3) people. I dont get how that is a difficult concept for you to understand. Renee, my mother (who you literally called a liar for leaving her own review, accusing me of "recruiting" a person to write a phony review) left HER OWN review based on HER opinion of HER food that I came into your restaurant to pick up while she waited in my car for almost 30 more minutes after we had called in our order. I have waaaayyy more intergrity than to stoop so low as having someone write phony reviews. My mom actually dined with you before and enjoyed the food and experience. SHAME ON YOU for providing a poor experience to customers and then arguing with/falsely accusing them through review comments. I hardly ever leave reviews, but felt it appropriate as when I requested to cancel my order in person (my initial solution) the staff practically had a fit as if I was wrong to want to do so. If the long wait was poor communication, why not offer SOME communication at all when I was waiting in your establishment in person? I had no confidence that a returned order would be met with a dignified agreeable response, much like this poor response I have received via Google reviews. Poor communication is one thing, NO communication is another. Miserable I am not, I was gracious enough to move forward with the transaction even though the experience was going badly. I pray peace finds you as well, because your restaurant will not thrive when you call your customers liars for leaving honest reviews. Take accountability and get better.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: I called in my order (painstakingly as I could tell the person taking the order was unprepared to take down the order). Restaurants not having items in the early part of the day is normally a red flag for me, but I had heard good things so I wanted to give them a try. Ordered a $15.00 "large" rib tips meal with red beans and rice and yams, $15 "large" turkey tips meal with the same sides, and a shrimp and fries meal that had an online price listing of $15.00. Said I'd arrive in 20 mins to pick up. Waited 25 extra minutes making me late for an appointment, my order was wrong - I ended up with chicken instead of ribs - the red beans and rice was definitely not a Jamaican recipe (it looked like yellow rice from a box mixed with beans from a can) and I got watery mac and cheese in both orders even though I was offered dressing to substitute for the yams they didn't have (which was a sub for the cabbage they didn't have in the first place). They charged $30 for fried shrimp and french fries the quality of which I could order from the restaurant across the street a block further west for half the price. Not a single person was up front greeting customers, and the only time anyone came out of the back was when a family member stopped by to visit, at which point I asked to cancel the order I had been waiting almost an extra half hour for and was told "you're gonna have to tell him" and asked simultaneously (by 3 people in the kitchen) "why" I wanted to cancel since my order was "ready" (which it was not). The only reason I saw this terrible experience through was in an effort to support a black owned business. Keep that $66 and work on getting better. I, for one, will not be returning. Every business deserves a 2nd chance to make a better impression.The 2nd visit was an hour before closing and told they were out of sides.They had fries.No problem
This was my 3rd visit and after waiting 40minutes and I saw other customers who came in after me being served, one with a side that I had ordered.
After everyone else had left,the older female proprietor came out,asked my name and told me that my sides were still in the oven.I asked which sides were those.She said whatever sides you ordered ain't ready.My order was to come with 2sides.I asked which sides they had when I placed my order at 4:12pm.He said they had 4 and named them.
I then changed my order to NO sides.
THEN I was told by this lady, I recognize you as giving us a bad review.I'm giving you your money back.I got it and left.
I'd highly suggest that you take the effort to provide fewer flies and better customer service in your establishment.
