The food is great but the wife/owner is not. We have been here a few times and we always get stews with goat meat as it's our favorite. Today my husband received his usual okra stew with no actual goat meat but only bones. They usually don't add a thick red sauce to his but today they did on top of the goat bones when serving it, in which I hope not to disguise the fact that it had nothing on them. We told the wife-owner about this and her response with a rude tone was "Goat has bones and if you don't want bones then order lamb, beef and chicken. I have no control over the goat". If that is the case then she should put on the menu that if you order goat you might only get bones and I'm sure people will steer far away from it. My husband is from Uganda and I have also lived there so we know all about goat meat. We've also been at this restaurant plenty of times and also other African restaurants and we only order goat meat because we miss it so much. Yes goat meat has some bones but a plate should not be full of bones, if it is then you have a supplier problem it's not the customer's problem. Also I'm sure that that was not the only portion of goat that she had in the back. I can understand portioning out your goat meat by weight and bagging it if that is what she is doing. She should also realize that the weight of the meat portioned out could just be bones and you need to evaluate what you are serving the customer as getting goat meat is more expensive than other meats and is an $10 extra charge on your stew. No one wants to pay an extra $10 for bones. Basically he had vegetarian stew with bones. Also since my husband is from Uganda it's actually considered an insult when you are served only bones at a restaurant because it means that they're trying to cheat you out of your money. Lastly I would like to add that this is not the first time that we have encountered the wife-owner and to have had a negative experience. Especially on our first visit when we didn't know anything and we just asked about ordering extra fufu and she rudely and I would even say yelled in an irritated manner that we can't order 2 extra fufu or different types of fufu. We didn't know because at other restaurants we are allowed to order any type of fufu and however many that we need. Also we didn't get the chance to memorize the entire menu before ordering. I do however notice that she does have a good Caucasian clientele so I am not sure how she treats them if it is any different but I'm sure that they would not come back if she did treat them that way, so my husband and I do not appreciate being treated the way that we have. I would also like to add that the rest of the family that run the restaurant are awesome. The husband is hilarious and the children are so polite and kind. Whenever we are served and only dealing with them we are happy and we know that you...
Read moreI really wanted to like this place and it had some highlights but we had too many negatives to make us want to go back. Layout is weird, I can't fault them completely as they kept the same layout as the former Mexican restaurants that used to occupy this space. But the entrance is very cramped and half of the front bar looked more like storage for clothes and such. But like other posts we weren't seated, we were left to free range a table. Hard to get 5 of us into these dark, tiny alcoves. We were only given 3 menus to begin with and told we would be brought more, so we had to share which made it hard as the menu appeared to be printed from their store and staples together. ~4 minutes later, water was dropped off without asking if we had any questions or taking a drink order. After 10 more minutes of waiting, with no one stopping by, we were ready to walk out. We had discussed where to go in fact and decided on another restaurant when one of the gals finally came to order (she had short hair). She acted like we were a major inconvenience even though I didn't see more than 3-4 other tables sat at, so they were not slammed. Unfortunately, no kid menu so we got to pay full price ($18) for a half plate pasta and chicken, because they wouldn't let us order just buttered noodles. They were fairly quick with delivering food which I was pleasantly surprised with. A different gal dropped off our food, (she had long hair) she was the only person there that was kind and genuinely seemed like she cared and enjoyed working there. My mother's order which was ordered half tomato/ half spicy sauce was dropped off with only tomato sauce. At this point everything had been delivered except my husband's meal, and when he saw the shirt haired gal walk by he said, "excuse me", she cut him off with "yeah, yeah were working on it" and she walked away. Assuming he'd ask about his meal... The long hair gal walked by shortly later and he was able to ask about the additional hit sauce and she apologized and said she'd bring it. My husband's lamb kabobs were good except that one of the hunks of meat wasn't lamb. He said it didn't even taste like beef.
Food was interesting and tasty, but unfortunately the prices felt really high to put up poor service. I get that sometimes people/places have an "off" day but I have no desire to return unfortunately.
It was was Father's Day weekend, they did give the 2 dads if the group a dessert/doughnuts treat. That was an unexpected nice touch and was...
Read moreI have been wanting to check out this place forever and finally did. Owner helped us order but seemed like she was not enjoying it at all and that we were bothering her. Biggest complaint would probably stop us from coming back again is the portion was small. I got the oxtail and I’m use to getting at leas 4 good sizes when I go to places but here I got 4 tiny pieces and a small scoop of fufu which cost me $27. My kiddo got a scoop of rice and 2 drum sticks and that also cost us $27. My husband’s plate cost $27 also and he got a scoop of rice and just two skewers of beef. Our overall meal for 4 people, 1 appetizer, 2 sodas, 4 dishes, 1 Togo, cost us about $179. We were originally charged $120 and then told that she made a mistake for not charging us for 2 go and that it was now $152 but then when I got home and checked my bank account I was charged $179. Not to mention the extra cost for making dishes spicy upon request or our to go meal. I understand it’s a small family owned business and inflation but man if you really want to charge that much, maybe add more rice and add additional side dish or bigger portion of fufu or rice etc. I wouldn’t mind paying $27 for a dish if the portion was there…I do want to add that the table that came after us and they were regulars, we could tell that their portions were much bigger than ours.
When I reached out to the restaurant about the extra charge on my card she mentioned something about tax and it was on top of the cost etc. I informed her that she told me that it was $152 and not $179. Regardless, of whatever miscommunication that happened, she should have not gone ahead and changed and charged for $179 when I signed $152. That is illegal. She should have made sure that I was given the correct receipt and wrote and signed the correct amount before I left the restaurant. When she discovered that I wrote a review about my experience at her restaurant she then decided to harass me via text message and email and threatening to post my receipt that has my information on it and kindly requested her not to and reminded her that it was illegal to change and charge someone’s credit card for a different cost than what they signed for. She then accused me for sitting at her restaurant for too long even though she never came and checked on us or came by to give us a check, we had to get up and track her down for our check.this is very unprofessional and makes me wonder how many times she may have done this to...
