I'll have to agree with many of the reviews left so far. The interior of the building itself was spacious and clean, the service was great but you're really only there for the food.
My family comes from the El Paso, TX are and I grew up with amazing Mexican and Tex-Mex food, both homemade and while dining.
I ordered a fairly simple item, the Burrito Azteca and when it arrived I had high hopes, the plating was awesome and the serving sizes were generous (standard refried beans and rice).
But the whole thing was a huge disappointment. The sides were lukewarm and the burrito itself was mediocre if I'm being generous. The beef filling was cold and unseasoned (not even salt) and the red chile was a watery, tasteless concoction that tasted mildly of vinegar with no spice to speak of.
As has been mentioned in several over reviews, Lamar already has plenty of Mexican restaurants and unfortunately Casa Azteca is not a standout selection among those choices. I admit that this was simply one item on their menu, but for the cost ($15 for a burrito) the service and atmosphere doesn't rate a second visit from me....
Read moreBland isn't a word I normally associate with Mexican cuisine, but here it is: bland. Not a lot of flavor in anything. The taco contained unseasoned ground beef that was dry and the sauce with the enchilada and the chile relleno were both bland. The chile used for the relleno was also tasteless. Be sure to read the menu carefully. I ordered a combo and it came without rice and beans, which I had been expecting. The server said it does not come with rice and beans. My fault for expecting this. When I order sopapillas, I expect a basket with sopapillas and a bottle of squeeze honey. What I got wasn't bad, but not what I expected. I got four square sopapillas with a scoop of ice cream, enough whipped cream to sink a battleship and chocolate sauce. Again, this just wasn't my expectation. Perhaps the server should explain this when she lists the desserts. It was not a totally bad experience overall, just not up to my expectations when a local...
Read moreSLIMY business. Ate, had a fine enough meal, good burritos. They charged us $4 extra for one of our margaritas because it wasn’t the special discounted flavors for the day like the other was, whatever it was on a sign and we should have paid attention to that. Then we got mediocre service at best, had to ask for water to come with our drinks (never had to do that before with alcohol). Then no more service until bill time. Then they charged us an extra 3% without warning as a card fee. When we asked about it they said it’s on the front door so everyone knows. See photos of the front door sign. It does not tell you what the fee is and no one warned us nor was it on the receipt when we paid. Had to ask for the old copy of our receipt to prove to ourselves the number had changed. SLIMEY business operations. Would not give them any of my...
