Saw an article that it opened in the Tampa Bay Times... and about a month later found ourselves passing by the Wesley Chapel, FL area so we sought it out for a late lunch.
We really enjoyed the brining and breading of the chicken. The brine definitely imparts a great flavor. And the texture of the crisp, not "batter-y", breading was very pleasing and tasty.
We tried the 5-pc Hot Tenders and the Bourbn Brown Sugar BBQ Sandwich (combo) with Fries & Chocolate Shake.
We had to try a variety of Guy's sauces...Buffalo, Bourbon Brown Sugar BBQ, Donkey Sauce, Garlic Parmesan & Special Sauce. And we loved each sauce! Delicious and fresh-tasting... each element listed in the description stood out to make a great combination.
The Hot Tenders had that same crisp exterior like the original version, but with a spicy seasoning that coated the crustiness. It is a bold flavor that we enjoyed. So bold the sauces got kind of lost within the hotly-spiced bite. Next time we'll order the originals to maximize our enjoyment of the sauces!
The Bourbn Brown Sugar BBQ Sandwich was excellent. Read the description and enjoy that first chomp. It's a hunch-eating type of sandwich with multiple layers of flavor and chicken piled into a big bite that inevitably has a few castoffs. From the jack cheese, slaw, pickles, kettle chips and sauces...it's an explosion of flavor and textures. It was a great sandwich!
The Chicken Guy! Fries were fry-nomenal! Hot, crispy and arranged vertically so they didn't just pile on top of each other to get steam up and get soggy (talking to you every other to-go fry provider!). And, once again, the seasoning flavor was bold and delicious! We utilized the fries to more effectively taste all the sauces we ordered.
The chocolate shake was very good. I'm not a huge soft serve fan, but it was well-executed and tasted like real chocolate. There were even mini chocolate chips hidden within those creamy depths.
We dined-in on a Friday around 1PM and walked right up to order. The staff was friendly and helped explain our sauces and sandwiches questions. The service was quick with the entire order coming out just a minute or so after we sat down.
The decor and restaurant itself was energizing and totally Flavortown/Guy Fieri. We enjoyed the layout and interior design.
Overall Chicken Guy! is delicious. Its brine and crisp breading (it's hard to even call it 'breading') stand out from the rest of the chicken tenders competition. The sauces are spectacular and packed with flavor. And the fries bring it home it typical Fieri style. All flavor and super crispy.
Highly recommend and will be back when in the area. Just need one closer to Tampa for more...
Read moreI heard about Guy Fieri's shot at a fast food place that specializes in all things chicken. I was even surprised it opened in the northernmost part of Tampa considering there aren't any other locations in the state except Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, and Jacksonville. You won't be finding these on every block like Chick-fil-A. In an already saturated market for chicken, I was skeptical despite the impressive 3K+ reviews in such a short period of being open. On our way home from Legoland, I suggested to the wife that we stop at Chicken Guy and give it a shot. Our son loves chicken tenders no matter where they're from, so he needed no convincing tonight. Upon entering, you're hit with a very cool, laid back ambience, music is alternative rock from the 2000s and 2010s, very reflective of Guy's (and myself's!) generation. Dylan took the order and brought it to the table. Very nice guy! He forgot our son's fries and fruit cup, but that was no big deal. He got those items ordered back to the kitchen right away. Cielo (the nicest lady you'll ever meet in your life!) brought the forgotten items to the table and chatted with us for a few minutes and mentioned a few things about the food and the sauces especially. Yes. This review is about food after all. So let's talk about those chicken tenders! There are tenders, and then there are Chicken Guy tenders. You have not had a real chicken tender until you've had one of theirs. Why? That crispy breading with the slightest crunch that is clearly seasoned with some secret blend of spices that turns into a flavor explosion for your taste buds. Dip it in their house made honey mustard which is unlike ANY honey mustard you've had in your life! That flavor combination of their seasoned tenders and that very unique honey mustard is most truly a treat for your palette. Even as I type this out, words cannot describe the flavors. PDQ? Nothing on these guys. Chick-fil-A? Keep walking. Raising Canes? (They're right across the street from Chicken Guy), they're a joke. Do yourself a favor. The next time you want chicken, go to Chicken Guy. Forget any other chicken joint exists, because these guys just set the platinum standard in all things chicken in a fast-casual environment. Thank you again Cielo and Dylan for making my family's first visit to Chicken Guy a memorable one. We will be...
Read moreAMAZING doesn’t even come close to the experience I had here for my first time. Today I ate inside, my friend explained the food is great so I had to try it. Before walking in Adam who was outside taking the orders for the drive through was extremely kind and complimented the car I was driving which was a very pleasant conversation. We went inside which was fairly busy but luckily was able to find a place to sit and it is car seat friendly as well since I did have my 2 month old with me as well. When the food came it was extremely quick and the food was very fresh! I rordered the tender meal and those fries were the best I have ever had!! I ended up coming back a couple hours through the drive through to get more fries… I asked Adam if they had a large and sadly they only had one size. He said he would go check inside if I didn’t mind pulling around to the window which I did. Adam went above and beyond what was expected of him which was very surprising as most places employees are burnt out. I was pleasantly greeted with a young man named Andy. He gave me my bag which had my fries but then Adam explained the situation to Juliet (who I assume was the shift leader/manager). She was more than willing to to give me more which I thought was extremely nice as well as a drink! I was not at all expecting such nice service especially 30mins till closing. Mackenzie (another employee) explained it would just be a moment since the fries were fresh and just finished, she handed me my fries and both her and Andy told me to have a great day. Long story short they all deserve a raise!!! Their kindness and hospitality is the reason I would come back! The food was great don’t get me wrong those fries are out of this world but as a new mom going out can be challenging and overwhelming with her. They kept things extremely quick and I would say that any company would be lucky to have them as employees. I will most definitely be coming back again. Thank you to Adam, Mackenzie, Juliet, and Andy, you guys...
