2/8/20 - While the food is 5+ stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐, sadly they lose a star because of Florida avocado use in guacamole still and hold onto your hats, no draft beer. Yes that's right, a Mexican restaurant with fantastic food and no draft beer. I'm from Texas and I can tell you no reputable Mexican food restaurant in Texas doesn't serve draft beers. With all that said had the daily special, pork enchiladas with boom boom sauce along with a side pork taco. It was all perfect. We also had cheese chili relleno with beef enchilada and beef taco. Both came with green Chile rice and refried beans. the chips are aplenty and a couple of sopapillas with honey for dessert. I was not a fan of the margarita but there wasn't anything wrong, just personal preference. I like a Gregorio better. Still fantastic staff and will definitely return for more Hatch Green Chili.
Wow! It's only taken over 20 years to find good New Mexican food. Chuy's gets gold stars for wonderful Hatch Green Chili in their sauce along with their rice and several other items. Plus they offer stacked enchiladas made with freshly made blue corn tortillas. We tried all of their sauces and they have some unique flavors. We also had their queso. Of course with all the sauce choices, I threw in a few to kick up the heat index. The chips are thin and addicting to eat. The chicken cheese enchilada and chili rellenos was perfect as was the green chili rice. The refried beans are fresh and flavorful. We also had a taco. More gold stars, they don't use prefab shells. They make their own. The ground beef spiced nicely. Cheese enchilada along with cheese chili relleno all covered with green chili sauce was wonderful. Then tried the sopapillas. Not as light as in NM, nor free with meal, but they puffed and had good flavor. We omitted the sugar & cinnamon. Got honey only. Yum. Only negatives are no tamales and sadly they used Florida avocado for guacamole. Hopefully both will change. Now, let's talk about our fantastic waitress, Reagan W. She was so attentive and will ask for her every time we go there. You won't be disappointed with her care. Wait til you see all the pics...you...
Read morereally don’t get the hype. Honestly, this place was worse than Chili’s, and with spots like Tres Amigos offering better food, drinks, and service at similar prices, I can confidently say I won’t be back.
The experience started off on the wrong foot. I was seated in a booth like I requested, but immediately noticed a strong chemical odor, like someone had just cleaned the table with a heavy dose of cleaner. It lingered throughout the meal until the food finally arrived and helped mask it. At one point, a kid nearby spilled something, and instead of using a mop, an employee wiped it up with a hand towel. That honestly made me wonder if that’s what they had used on my booth too.
Service didn’t help things. My waitress was sweet but slow and forgetful. I asked for water with lemon and got plain water that tasted like tap. When my fajitas arrived, I had no plate and had to wait around five minutes to ask again. I also really dislike when my credit card goes on a journey around the restaurant instead of straight to the register and back.
There was also a moment that felt unnecessarily rude. I asked if the “beef” fajitas were steak or ground beef, since most menus just say steak if that’s what they mean. She replied, “I don’t know why so many people have a hard time understanding that.” Maybe because the rest of the menu actually says steak in other places like the burrito section.
The chips and salsa at the beginning were great. The salsa had a little kick and a lot of flavor. The proteins and condiments on my steak, chicken, and shrimp fajitas were solid, but the tortillas were way too thick and had an odd floury taste. As for the drinks, they were awful. I tried one of their signature margaritas and couldn’t even tell if there was tequila in it. I upgraded to one with Don Julio and it was still incredibly weak. At $14 to $16 each, that’s inexcusable, especially at a Tex-Mex spot where the margaritas should be a highlight.
I already said it, but I’ll say it again. I won’t be back. I don’t care how cute the decorations or patio are if the food, drinks, and service are...
Read moreWent Friday 4/27 around 3:30 pm. No wait time since it was still early. We were seated in a booth but I asked to be moved because it was very cold. I sat at a booth by the window but because I was with my young daughter, the booth seat was too far from table for her so we moved again to the center table were it was also freezing cold. At this point I didn't want to move again so my daughter went to the car and got a sweater. Waitress was very nice and apologized several times. I am one to love Mexican food, I mean I was probably Mexican in another life lol so I was pretty excited to try them out. The salsa was spicy for our taste and my daughter didn't eat it but the ranch dip was pretty good. The food took very long even though they were not very busy but that's ok its their first week so I understood. They were having a staff meeting behind us and it seemed as 2 people were arguing or disagreeing about someone switching their schedule with another employee. Finally our food comes out, not exactly what I was expecting. Chicken on the Chalupa was tough, beef in the taco was well seasoned but lots of added peppers. The salsa on the enchilada was overpowering and not enough cheese. Took a few bites of everything before my food got cold. It was still very cold in the dinning area. Waitress asked me how was everything and I told her. She got the manager who came and apologized. He asked me if I wanted a new plate but I said no so he took my plate and as he is walking to the kitchen he put his finger in the food to see if it was indeed cold. They did not charge me for that plate and that wasn't were I was trying to get but I thanked them. I might give them another shot at some point after they work...
