I recently had my wedding here and I cannot give enough credit to Mike for all of the work he did. He was available and accommodating at every stage of planning. The venue was just gorgeous. So many of my guests mentioned the unique decor and set up. We barely had to decorate as the venue was already set up with beautiful twinkle lights, greenery, and the train car. The tables and chairs were set up quickly without issue. The food was wonderful, warm, and the buffet allowed guests to eat within their dietary needs. Staff cleared down the decorations and packed everything neatly so we had nothing to worry about the next day. Overall, the day was very near perfect and we will always cherish our day at DiSalvo's.
It would be unfair to new couples not to mention several drawbacks that we felt dampened the day a bit. We were told that we would be able to have the cigar lounge and bar until 1 AM. The bartender, a dark-haired server, was hasty, rude, and closed the bar at a few minutes after 10 PM. We were still ordering drinks when she said that it was her last call. We felt very rushed to leave. Family and guests ended up going to a local bar until 1 AM, instead of being able to stay in the cigar lounge as promised (and paid for). In the cigar lounge, there was a green liquid running from the ceiling to the floor. I had to lift my dress to avoid stains. When I informed staff, they simply walked away. It was never cleaned up and a bridesmaid ended up with whatever it was on her dress. Lastly, our bartender, tall, reddish brown hair, for the night was intoxicated. Several guests made comments to me through the night. I witnessed the behavior myself and it was unacceptable. It became increasingly worse as the night went on, to the point where he was attempting to pour wine with the cap still on it, and pre-mixing drinks and leaving them at the bar so he didn't have to attend to guests.
Again, I do not place any of the blame for these issues on Mike, he was a saint. We still had an absolutely magical day and we hope that many couples to come experience the joy and ease of having a wedding...
Read moreAfter my fiance and I got engaged in December 2017, we only visited one potential reception venue--DiSalvo's! Upon stepping inside and meeting with Mike, the Wedding Coordinator, we were certain we had found "the place!" Not only is the setting beautiful, requiring only minimal outside decorations, but the food is incredible! We were shocked to discover how affordable the venue was! Mike was extremely accommodating and helpful--he alone is worth the cost of the venue! When we came in a few times for meals prior to the wedding, he was kind and attentive to our families, which made them so happy! He always went out of his way to come say hello, and no matter how many emails I sent with questions he answered quickly and patiently. We came to set up for the reception the Wednesday evening before, and Mike was there to assist. He made the process so smooth, and his vision for how things should be set up was incredible, too! What could have been a stressful night ended up being a lot of fun! On the day of the wedding, Mike again came through. Despite a few last minute menu change requests/cancelled guests, things were handled perfectly. Mike was patient with all guests, and helped ease tensions when we were late coming from photos off-site for the start of the reception. We believe we were provided a few extra food items in the cocktail hour, too, as a result, which is also amazing! Further, because we had so many out of town guests Mike asked his staff to set up the cookie table for us, which is not normally included, and restocked it throughout the reception. Staff also helped with cleanup, and packed everything up for us to easily pick up the next day. I am thrilled that we chose DiSalvo's--Mike truly made our day special, and I will never forget it. I will recommend them to everyone I know looking for a wedding venue, and look forward to many meals in the restaurant...
Read moreI've had mixed experiences here.
For Valentine's the train car dining was very nice. The food was great and came with good portions. The risotto might've been the best I've ever had. One of the owners acted as our waiter which was very nice. What wasn't as nice was when I ordered a bottle of wine a certain bottle was offered, which we purchased, but the price was not announced. Given the environment it felt inappropriate to ask, however the waiter really should have brought out a wine list and pointed it out to verify that I knew the price. The bottle was not very excessively priced, but it did make me a little nervous until the check arrived. Something that was a huge turn off was the included 20% gratuity for our group of 2. I should be able to choose my gratuity or it really should be included in the price as it was a fixed price dinner. This gratuity amount leads to a rather large tip on a $200+ dinner. The service was good, but if each of the three tables the waiter was working were forced into a $40 tip, then the waiter was making $120/hr. Mr. Di Salvo should try not to leave his customers feeling like they were fleeced on the way out the door over a few bucks in tips.
Most times I've gone here otherwise have been good, however last time I was in the room with the model train there were some issues. The model train was having issues. There was a stain on the wall from water damage. I was served seafood that tasted like iodine and that the staff admitted was bad and would be thrown out. I was offered an alternative entree, which would arrive after everyone else's food, but there was no reduction on my bill for the...
