Caribe Marisqueria — Restaurant in Lawrence

I recently visited "Caribe" for the first time and it was a very pleasant surprise. From the outside, it looks like a very humble restaurant. The parking lot is rather the worse for wear and the building is underwhelming at best. Once inside, however, my impression changed 180 degrees.

The atmosphere and decor, as the name suggests, put one in mind of a Carribbean beachfront bar. The food is tropical and seafood-oriented although there are burritos, tacos, and tostadas and other more familiar Mexican favourites, as well. There are some gorgeous tropical cocktails, too.

The wait staff was friendly and very attentive. They repeatedly checked in on our situation, spiciness levels, beverage needs and so on. English was a bit of an issue but there was a "translator" staff member to help, as needed.

The prices were reasonable but certainly not cheap. On Sunday afternoon when we were there, it was quite packed but we didn't have to wait. The music was loud so don't expect to have a lot of conversation unless you are prepared to speak loudly.

Pro Tip: The restrooms were clean and decorated nicely. For dessert, you might consider picking up some cake at the Hispanic cake and donut...

My husband order a shrimp cocktail food took at least 30min to arrived- waitress brought my pasta & my husband was still waiting for his cocktail shrimp when the waitress finally brought it - it was all watery even she noticed it because she was the one to mentioned after my husband was getting ready to say something the owner of the place came to us & instead of apologizing about this incident he said that they had the same cook - & they were still going to charge for it okay charge for it but not even an apology what kind of place is this so very disappointed because we never - had this happen before - mind you it’s not even the paying for a food that was not made correctly it’s the fact that not even an apology - Please don’t go to this place you will be so disappointed with the service / had issues before with waitress but seems like this place is going down the hill now - very rude service - but coming from the owner has a lot to say- I had heard in the past he has kicked people out just because he doesn’t like them but honestly this is very so unprofessional especially coming from the owner- I recommend you guys going to Terra mar very nice staff &...

My experience here was absolutely amazing!!! I will definitely be returning. Note: Most of the employees speak mostly Spanish. I would say do your homework before you come in and use some Spanish words/phrases when you come in to help with your experience. You can tell they want you to have a great time. The food was beyond good. I'm still thinking about it. We ordered fajitas, the mojarro to garlic, ceviches toast, prawns, and the broth soup, and the other soup that had octopus in it. The prices were so affordable, especially for a big birthday dinner. The chips and salsa, mmmm mmmm mmmm. Ha!
