China House — Restaurant in Lawrence

From reading the reviews, I had high expectations but after having lunch at China House today I have to disagree with most all reviews here. I'm not sure if the previous review were done by friends of the owners or employee's but this is hands down the worst Asian/Oriental food in Lawrence, KS.

Food tasted very cheap (Rice tasted like cheap instant rice) I ordered the General Tso' Chicken and it tasted like something that would come from the frozen food section at the grocery store.

Egg Drop soup looked so bad that I didn't even have the courage to try it (It had the consistencey of Jello).

The plastic silverware provided was a joke (very small, thin and fragile). While eating, a piece of the fork actually broke off.

Water machine also did not work, it couldn't separate the Pink Lemonade from the Water so I enjoyed a free Pink Lemonade since the water never came out clear.

Cashier messed two of our orders up because she couldn't understand english very well and when I had her correct my Egg Drop soup, she seemed rude about getting this fixed.

The only positive thing I can say about this place is that it was very cheap for lunch (around $5.20) from entree, rice and soup.

Overall I would say this place is a 3-4/10 and I honestly don't know how this place is receiving...

Best Chinese food in town and in the surrounding area. We have tried a gazillion different Chinese restaurants and all fall short to China House. Who would know a small town would have such a great Chinese restaurant?. It’s very authentic, food tastes hot and fresh every time!! When we lived in the area we would order every Friday night. We just passed through while traveling and had to get us our fix. Of course it didn’t disappoint at all. We have tried many dishes there but we’d recommend the beef and broc combination, sweet and sour pork combination. Their house friend rice has great variety of the meats. Pork fried rice is fresh and pork pieces are crispy and delicious. Chicken fried rice has crispy chicken which doesn’t make for weird gray pieces like some places. White rice is cooked perfectly, not mush. Egg rolls and crab Rangoon always freshly fried. I love their hot oils as well. Would also recommend the veg lo mein. Noodles cooked great not soggy, veggies still have bite left to them, not super soft. Service is always fast and friendly. I always call in my orders and they are kind enough to repeat the order back to me to ensure it’s correct. The only sad part about this place is I live so far away...

The Food here is Really Fresh. Get the Crab Rangoon its Grate. There are grate Options here from Lo-main to Shrimp with Lobster sauce and I really enjoy picking up my food and taking it home. Just don't forget the chop sticks there nested to tho Soda Fountain. They have a accent so it could make it sightly harder to order over the phone if you cant understand them :P but I have had vary little issues with that my self. There set up in what looks like a old Subway shop with the Gold color Railing and the Mirror. They seem fairly fast at making your food. I find my self not calling in sometimes and just showing up and ordering. it usually only takes maybe 20 min at max seems like. I get there Combo Meals witch come in one pastic container with your main dish and your choice of Fried or White Rice and your choice of Crab Rangoon or Egg Roll.
