I really want to like this place! My family has stayed at this specific TRU location more than 5 times over the last year since my daughter is attending KU. The first few visits were amazing! The rooms are clean, the place has a fun vibe, it's surrounded by so much to do and the price is pretty great too!
During our stay in March 2025, on a Monday morning, housekeeping was outside our door at 6:30am talking loudly about their weekend, issues with the family, etc. I let it carry on for over 30 mins until I had to step outside my room to ask housekeeping to keep it down. Our family likes to take advantage of opportunities to sleep in and it didn't happen on this visit.
This past weekend (Aug 2025) we stayed again. This time we arrived late on Saturday and had planned to sleep in on Sunday. As we were taking the elevator to the second floor, I noticed the "Quiet Hours" sign posted in the elevator. It suggested quiet hours from 10pm - 8am. I took note of this sign after my experience in March. Sure enough, at 6:30am, housekeeping was LOUDLY cleaning rooms. Literally, knocking metal trashcans into their trash, slamming doors and bumping into walls with carts. At 7:30am I stepped into the hall to let them see I was frustrated but they didn't care. At 10:30am, housekeeping knocked on our door. My daughters were still sleeping and we had a "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door. She asked if we were done. As I was telling her "no" she started to charge into my room. I had to step back and loudly tell her we would not be leaving until noon. Finally, at 11:15, I receive a call from someone in housekeeping checking in to see if we needed anything before we left???? Huh?? This literally has me feeling like housekeeping was trying to kick us out so they could get to their cleaning and leave for the day.
It's frustrating when something like this helps decide for you to never return again. Especially when this is the only reason I won't return. My family travels a lot and, while we appreciate housekeeping services, we never really "notice" when they are around. I'd like to keep it that way, especially at early morning hours when "everyone" should be honoring...
Read moreFor soooo many reasons. The guy at the desk seemed confused at times. We get to our room and it was disgusting. My husband always disinfects everything and I do a bed bug check. Anyway, there were no bed bugs, however the mattress cover corner had a huge amount of blood or something like it. All around the wooden base to hold the mattress was covered with hair, fur, crumbs, dirt and even a penny. My husband cleaned the corners of the wooden base...so it may have looked clean at first glance, but the whole wooden base needs serious cleaning. Someone needs to take the mattress off and clean underneath it. The pillows smelled like someone's hair. Behind the TV on the base had dust and dirt on it. My husband had only wiped down the front of the base of the TV. I couldn't even sit down. We asked for non pet floor, but obviously it was...which I understand it was a pet friendly hotel where basically the 2nd floor was hardly ever used for pets. He put us on the 2nd floor. I would NEVER stay at this hotel again. We immediately went down to the desk and told him how disgusting the room was. I see we were charged on our bank, but also got the refund for that night we didn't stay. We stayed at a TRU by Hilton the night before in Tennessee and it was fine. I cannot even put into words how bad this place was. There was no way I could sleep on the bed, let alone sit on it. Who knows when the comforter or bedding was cleaned last...we pulled the covers back and all these little black things were on there. It looked like house cleaning was cutting corners...pillow cases over used pillow cases...not changing the sheets, or dusting. I didn't even go in the bathroom because I did not want to see the nastiness in there. Very VERY beyond disgusted and disappointed in a Hilton hotel. I would NEVER recommend this place to ANYONE! I would have given a no star if...
Read moreI stayed at the Tru by Hilton in Lawrence for several days in June, 2024, and I frequently wondered where all the negative reviews of the hotel on this site came from. I booked the hotel before seeing the reviews, as it was geographically convenient for me and it seemed nice enough. After seeing the negative reviews, I was a little concerned that maybe I’d made a bad choice. . . but after my entirely pleasant, entirely fine stay, I can confidently state that the Tru by Hilton in Lawrence is a fine hotel. ||To get specific, all of the staff with whom I interacted where great, from the front desk staff who let me check in a bit early to the housekeeping staff who were professional and competent. The room was absolutely fine - not the biggest in the world, but there was a comfortable bed, a mini-fridge (no freezer), a nice bathroom, and a big window with a view of the high school baseball fields out back. The gym was small but serviceable and met my needs - there is an assortment of dumbbells, kettle weights, a pull-up bar, medicine balls, an exercise bike, and two treadmills. And, the breakfast was free and fine with mild variations in what was served day-over-day to mix things up a bit. Finally, the 24-7 free coffee in the lobby was a nice perk. Overall, again, this hotel was totally solid with regard to amenities and infrastructure. I had absolutely no issues during my stay, and was - again - impressed by the pleasant and professional staff. ||If you’re in Lawrence and the geography works for you (emphasizing that this hotel is NOT downtown or by the campus), then you should consider staying at the...
