Not only is this the BEST bbq we have had since moving to Tennessee but the staff/owner are great! We have been 2 times now and are so glad we stopped in the 1st time and had to go back to try their pizza as they just had their pizza oven up and running that night, They weren't selling pizzas but giving out samples instead. They wanted to ensure the pizza oven was working properly. That first night we had the brisket quesidilla and the chopped brisket sandwich with mac.n.cheese and a chicken, bacon and Mexican blend of cheese pizza and a brisket pizza(samples) that were given to us to try. We finished with banana pudding. The 2nd visit we shared the chicken, bacon, Mexican cheese blend pizza and the grilled cheese with brisket sandwich and the onion rings on the side. The owner had come over on our 1st visit and thanked us for coming in and dropped off the chicken/bacon pizza samples and told us he cures his own bacon. That was the BEST bacon I have ever had and I DO NOT EAT BACON. I know I know...WHAT??? You are saying right now...nope! I do not eat bacon. I do not like the texture. If it is so over cooked there is no more chewy fat I may take a bite, but Hinies bacon...WOW! It was cured perfectly and had more of the texture of a perfectly cooked ham. Delicious! The chicken was tender and you could definitely taste the smoke. It had a great BBQ sauce and the perfect amount of cheese. The brisket sandwich my hubby had, I know he really enjoyed it because he didn't even share one bite with me. It was a nice helping of chopped brisket on top of a hamburger bun, simple nothing fancy the way a brisket sandwich should be. The mac.n.cheese I made him share a bite because that is one of my Favorite food groups! It was creamy and cheesy. As for my brisket quesidilla, I would definitely order it again. It was the right amount of cheese and brisket ratio and the tortilla was grilled very nicely. Now for the banana pudding. As you know we are not from the south. Our idea of Banana pudding is a lot different. We would not order this again. It wasn't bad, just not what we personally like. The next visit was the chicken/bacon pizza and the brisket grilled cheese, I had it with pepper jack cheese and a side of onion rings. The pizza was incredible just like the sample we had. The dough is crisp to the bite but soft and airy in the crust. That bacon...delicious! The brisket grilled cheese...I would have to say I'd order the quesidilla before I'd order that again. My idea of a grilled cheese with brisket is ...a massive amount of cheese with some brisket. There was more cheese on the quesidilla. I am a cheeseahollic. I have a serious addiction. It was a good sandwich, the bread was perfect, the brisket always amazing but it lacked cheese. It was like the brisket sandwich my hubs had the first night with a slice or 2 of cheese on it. So for ne I will stick to the quesidilla! Nothing wrong with anything, it was all great. Just more cheese is my preference. Now as far as the onion rings, A must do! Perfectly battered and cooked 100% correct. Hinies is a GREAT addition to Lawrenceburg and we are definitely fans now. We have driven by for almost a year anticipating their opening and then they opened and were PACKED!! The parking lot was over flowing with cars. We knew we had to try. They have a full bar as of last week, a great gift shop and outdoor patio seating which has the bar you can walk up to also. It is a great building filled with great people and amazing bbq. We wish you all MUCH success and look forward to many more...
Read moreAside from pricing, I think with proper training this restaurant would be great. My husband brought me some brisket and beans shortly after Hinie's opened and it was fantastic. Moist, fatty brisket with a sticky flavorful sauce and the beans had a bit of spice to them from peppers. So we decided to take family here that just moved nearby with other family visiting as well. Luckily we came in right when people were leaving so our party of 10 (5 were kids) got seated pretty soon. Yay! The young lady who "cleared the table" took off the remaining dishes and trash and brushed off all the food bits just onto the floor. Gross. I didn't see any cleaner and doubt it was used. They didn't give my kids lemonade like I asked for and gave everyone their "special lemonade" that was orange and apparently tasted like mango Tang. Lol. We got cheesy bread, fried pickles and the saucetizer and chips for an appetizer. I thought my husband said salsatizer and was excited. This chip appetizer was bizarre. Chips had zero salt and you just dipped them (or tried.. They didn't really fit) in various bbq and steak sauces. Not sure why this is a thing? If the chips had melted cheese on them it might have been good. The cheesy bread looked good, I took a small piece of cheese off and ate it on a chip and the cheese was delicious. The fried pickles were good but teeny and thin and not many in the order. All the sides are mostly served in little ramekins and are about $4 each. The green beans were nothing but beans in a dish and I figured they'd be seasoned at least? I tasted the macaroni cheese sauce and it was under seasoned for sure. Fries were yummy but no ketchup to be found. Beans were good but not flavorful like before. The grilled cheese brisket sandwich my family member ordered was the wrong cheese and not even melted at all so they actually remade it. 3 of us got sliced brisket and it was dry in sections and not fatty and yummy like last time. Not the same sauce either and not sure you have to say what sauce you want or what because they just put whatever sauce they wanted on it apparently. I got the chopped brisket and thought it would be in chunks but it was about a step away from being pureed so that was weird. Lol. My one year olds have a very easy time sharing it with me. Not sure why but it was quite full of black pepper unlike the sliced brisket so I assume that added that? It came totally dry so you had to add sauce. They asked a couple of us if they wanted anymore drink once but that's it and never refilled my water once. So I had zero water the second half of my meal. I saw outside that ribs were that night's special but not one server mentioned it. Everything is ala carte and the meat is about $20 or more a pound which is crazy. Prices are what you would expect in Nashville perhaps, not Lawrenceburg. The gift shop is really cute but also overpriced tourist town prices. The restaurant is simple and nice inside and location is right on the highway and...
Read moreOk this is a not really a BBQ place. Hear me out. It's a meat place. The BBQ is maybe 1/10th of the menu. Lots of variety. They don't have full brisket just the flat which was disappointing but this area isn't huge on brisket so maybe that's a good move? I came in without knowledge of menu and was surprised by options and lack of BBQ options and no meats by 1/4 lb and typical BBQ restaurant standards.
I told the server I am a Texan and smoke a brisket every month and asked the server what they thought of the brisket and BBQ. I also mentioned I may pivot to the smash burgers. They said to go for the smash burgers. Interesting for a BBQ joint.
Now the smash burger was good (the need to modify to fried Oklahoma onion style though) and it was very good. Juicy but not quite enough S&P.
So. Long story short it's good. The meal and side I had was very good. I recommend and would eat again if in area, just don't go thinking it's really a BBQ joint because it's more varied than that.
On a scale of 10 I would be in the 8/9 range so it translates to a 4 star review for me on a scale of just...
