The atmosphere is decent for a family diner. It does feel rather cramped in there however, and there really isn't any waiting area inside the door if the seating area is full and you're waiting on a table to open up. The decor looks very dated, and if you don't mind the Christian theme, there's a poorly made Mother Teresa (Angel of Death) picture right in the center of the far wall in the dining area.
Next...the menu. There are A LOT of items on the menu, which should have been my first red flag before even going to eat here. However, being new to the area, we wanted to give it a try anyway for a Friday night dinner. Large menus generally means they are trying to cater to many different tastes but making the dishes mediocre at best. This means a lot of prepackaged, frozen, and not fresh ingredients as well as a lot of microwaved food preparation, especially if it gets out to the table quickly, which is what happened to us.
The meatloaf was obviously store bought frozen and pre-sliced through some sort of mechanical slicer. Fresh cut meatloaf shouldn't look like what I got with smooth sides. It was dense and firmed up without any pockets from the juices during the cooking process. It also had the tell tale signs of being store bought from the red "ketchup" looking layer on it. Fresh meatloaf with a ketchup topping doesn't look like it's been frozen into the top of the loaf and flattened to it either. This is probably why they smothered it in brown gravy, which tasted like prepackaged instant gravy and was very thick like it had been sitting in a pot too long waiting to get used. It wasn't even mixed well because I could taste pockets of added salt in the gravy.
My wife had salad with gyro meat. The meat wasn't freshly sliced off a dönar/gyro meat spit. You can tell because the meat slices are too long and evenly colored from being precooked. I know this is an option because I've had store bought gyro meat before and it looked just like what was on her salad. The spices were barely even tasted on the meat, too, which tells me the meat was store bought, probably frozen and warmed up in a microwave. Yes, I tried hers too just to see as I've had authentic gyros and dönars in Europe. This is not it.
Finally, nearly everyone there were all patrons well over aged 60+ and the place was definitely packed for an early Friday evening. My wife and I (40-somethings), as well as another family of adults that looked around 50 or so, were the only ones not in this age range. This doesn't bode well for a restaurant if the clientele are mostly much older adults taking advantage of someone else making bland food that is no better than the frozen pre-made pre-packaged meals you can buy from the store and thrown in the oven or microwave at home. The only benefit being someone else is doing the washing up afterwards while you're stuck paying much more for less food at the same price cost for the meal.
When going out to a restaurant, you should be paying for better than what you can make at home, or at least just as good with the convenience of someone else doing all the work. Needless to say, we aren't impressed, and without major overhaul to the plethora of menu options and the blaring lack of quality in the food, I doubt we'll be patronizing this establishment...
Read moreTo be honest this place has become a home away from home. It hurts my heart to see even one hateful review about this place or the people there. I'm a Texan and Texas hospitality is a very high standard. The whole staff has been there for me, a complete stranger in this community, when I found out my dad passed from cancer sitting in a booth alone. To two weeks later finding out I had cancer as well. Through all of my surgery and chemo journey when I could barely eat and couldn't swallow anything but soup. (Owner gifted me a huge container of chicken and dumplings which I eat for like 2 weeks cuz it was all I could eat) (Yes I froze individual bowls so it would keep that long) They don't have a problem with customizing your order due to dietary restrictions. I've been getting fish grilled no breading over rice with extra veggies add (super extra) mushrooms (doctors orders more omega 3 and veggies less red meat) it's been a little over a year and I've been in remission for almost a year now and their support has been unwavering. I truly love this place while I've not had a single dish I didn't like the people make this place like home. I love y'all
You have to try the Tres leche...
Read moreWe ate here for lunch today and we will not go back. I had the Farmer’s Skillet which should have been sausage, peppers and onions over hashbrowns with gravy and eggs. However, the sausage was cubed meat, there were only a tiny bit of hashbrowns, and the dish was filled almost completely with peppers and onions that were barely cooked and still very crunchy. I picked though and ate some of the eggs and hashbrowns but it was almost entirely inedible. I told the waitress and she apologized and said she would “tell the boys to cook better” and asked if I wanted something else, which I declined because I did not have time to wait. They took off the cost of my iced tea from our ticket and that was all. Also, while we were waiting for our food I heard this same waitress tell a man who was paying that they took his meal off completely because the cooks had messed it up so much. I have never written a bad review before but was just very, very frustrated with the food and the service. (The pictures are the size of the dish for comparison and then of all the uncooked peppers and onions I took out just to find...
