The Yum Yum Box — Restaurant in Lawton

After years of searching, I finally found my dream coleslaw.

(BTW, this is my first ever review...for anything. This dining experience impressed me so much I drove back after my post-lunch appointment to compliment the chef in person.)

If I ever see coleslaw on the menu, I'll order it. Over the years I've had a few good, some bad, most just okay (i.e. slightly disappointing). This slaw was the epitome of balance...a true delicacy. Texture: a creamy sauce (not too much, not too little) lovingly embracing tender (not soggy, more like al dente) shredded cabbage. Taste: an exquisite dance of the appropriate flavors -- a smooth, satiny tang supporting a pillow-soft sweetness wrapped in a light, fleecy blanket of peppery comfort. It was like my taste buds climbed into the perfect bed. The mind-blowing part was that the sweetness was embedded in the cabbage; no need for raisins or pineapple to counteract too much tang or pepper. I was assured this was no accident, fluke, or one-off. This was an honored treasure...

I discovered this lovely little establishment last month, and I think I've been there about seven times already, I've been telling everyone I know about the Yum Yum Shop. Fried wings excellent, fried catfish excellent, fried whiting excellent, pork chops excellent, fried chicken excellent, meatloaf excellent, dressing excellent, greens and cabbage excellent, yams excellent, sweet potato pie excellent, German chocolate cake excellent, strawberry cake excellent lemon cake excellent. Everything I've had has been excellent. The customer service is excellent. These are the nicest people, feels like family when I go in. Go check out the Yum Yum Shop ... you will be glad you did. Goodness gracious the Yum Yum Box brought the soul to Lawton Oklahoma. I'm here from North Carolina and I'm now kicking myself that I just discovered this restaurant on my last day here. This is momma's home cooking at its finest. Best meal I have had in Lawton by far. Juicy and crispy fried chicken, decadent Mac and cheese, and green beans made to perfection. This isn't a soul food meat n three it's culinary heaven on earth. If I could manage it, I would have eaten two or three plates. If I am ever back in Lawton I will eat here again for sure.
