If I could rate a "0" I absolutely would. Maybe a quarter of a star for food. Only because the fries were good. Service gets two stars because a waitress that wasn't our waitress was friendly and already knew there might be some disappointment and fixed our bill for us not to pay for the meal I received. The remaining burgers were paid for. Unfortunately, they were not finished but my children were hungry and did eat enough I feel to be paid for. I'm not terrible. However, my food was. And so was the service from our waitress. She was polite. We sat outside every bit of an hour just for food after we had to reorder food due to not having items on the menu that she didn't know about until ordering. When I got the chicken shawarma it was... The seasoning on the outside of the chicken was good. It would have taken another 40 min to eat through the dry? chewy? meat. That I did try to shred it. To kind of.. make it easier to chew.. it didn't. The rice, some pieces were hard and made it very uneasy to eat. Hurt my back tooth not knowing. Could be partially my fault I guess for not checking. In my defense, I was hungry. I love this dish and was super excited to get it without having to go out of town. When I put the pita and the sauce with high hopes at least pull this all together enough for me to enjoy. And it was just, nothing. I still had to chew and chew the chicken. Pita was good at least. We had two hairs on our plates. Ask me and I'll tell you what your cook looks like without even ever seeing him.. If you're looking for a peanut butter sticky burger. Go to Roadhouse on Lansing Ave... I had my oldest try something out of the box. Convinced him how good it was. He no longer trusts me because of this. Ugh. Epic fails on so many levels. I tried it to confirm. My youngest seen trash under outside tables we were sitting at. Thank goodness we were paying attention. He went for a pre roll broken glass vile. He's 6, wanted to help and throw it away not knowing. Classy guys! That could have been really bad. It was mostly definitely a "dine and dash" moment. Because it wasn't really a dine to begin with to be dashing from. Luckily, I'm a good person. I did contemplate it more than once though. And that's got to be pretty bad man. In my entire 30 years I'd never. I had high hopes for this place. Maybe a great place for music and drinks. But if never get anything but the fries from here again. Sorry guys, it is what it is.
P. S. She did tell us that the baklava just came in and was fresh! Also 2.50 for 2 pieces. So there's...

I don't fault them for this it is a difficult market and all the kids are back to school. The falafel was far cry from the ones I used to get at Jaruselem Gardens in Ann Arbor back when it was good (when the old guy was alive - yes it was a long time ago). Also, not as good as the ones I make at home. I think the temperature of the deep fryer was not optimal (critical) and the falafel itself was a bit bitter (maybe not freshly made). Slightly larger and fewer of them would make a better sandwich (also, if you smash them when making the sandwich it makes it a lot easier to eat. Also, I am pretty sure the lettuce was just iceberg lettuce and it would have been much better with romain. It came with fries that were great, coleslaw not so much. The mix on the fountian soda was perfect. I would suggest offering hummus (and onions) on the falafel - no I did not ask because I wanted to try it the way that it was offered. Also, more tomatoes (though not a lot more). I came to Jackson from Ann Arbor about 20 years ago. I was very spoiled by the food scene in A² and stopped going out to eat at all in Jackson after Gilberts closed (which is why I started making my own falafel). Now that my kids are grown I am less interested in cooking and really wanted this restaurant to work for me. They have the potential of beinig really good, but not close enough for me. I will give them another try in a few months, if they are still here. My bill came to $14.50ish. For reference - Current Jaruselem Gardens price for a Falafel sandwich is $8. I really didn't want the fries (though, I enjoyed them), they would have been a $3.75 side at J-Garden and the soda would have been $3. So for $0.25 more I could have gotten the same meal in A². I would suggest that the owner go there and have thiers and see if they would pay the same price for the one I had for lunch. You will always be compared to others, so you should be...
Read moreThere was nothing enchanting about this restaurant. The waitress was very rude to us from the moment we sat down, the menu had spelling errors all over it, when I asked for a simple side of pickles I was told they "don't normal just give pickles on the side" and when I said I'd be happy to pay for them I was still told I couldn't have the pickles. We were told they had "run out of lemons" yet there were entire bowls of lemons and pickles just sitting out on a very poorly maintained buffet by the front door. I don't see why they couldn't take two lemons and a pickle off of that to give us. Speaking of that buffet, there was food sitting out on it with nothing keeping the temperature regulated at all on any of the food - chilled items, or warm. It has been very hot and humid here lately. So, that's just salmonella waiting to happen. The food I received was a side of hashbrowns (zero other potato options) and a bowl of oatmeal. The potatoes were cold when they came out after taking a long time to even come to us. I wanted to complain when I was there because where I live this service is unacceptable, but the person I was with said they want to keep coming here since the falafel is good on the lunch menu. How I was treated today doesn't make me want to come back to find out about...
