There are 2 types of Mom and Pop Italian restaurants: 1. Authentic/real deal Italian, the kind of food you would find in Italy, and 2. Fast food/Americanized Italian.
Sadly, Antonio's would fall under the latter. I suppose if you view the restaurant under that light maybe it deserves 3 or 4 stars; but fair or not, this place is getting rated based on the establishment that was previously at this location.
Usually two big give-aways that this is "fast food/Americanized" Italian is the lack of veal or the classic Margherita pizza on the menu. Those two hints are certainly not the only give-aways, as other reviews have mentioned the utter lack of flavor or seasoning in the food (which I have also experienced as well).
The Mediterranean pizza is totally flavorless. Chicken is bland and there is no trace of a garlic and olive oil base. The crust is dry and it is not worth eating once you get to the end. Real-deal Italian joint pizza crust has that "crunchy on the outside, chewy in the center, borderline charred" taste about it. This pizza does not.
Okay, had the Stromboli again. MAJOR improvement from the last time. Right balance of cheese and toppings, and the dough was cooked nice and brown. Also, you guys give 2 things of sauce, which is awesome. I'll be willing to update more as retry items, as you guys work on improving them.
Successful "fast food/cut corners/omit recipe steps/Americanized" Italian restaurants are so because the community that the restaurant is located in are ignorant to what good Italian actually is. However, as I mentioned before Lewisville is NOT ignorant of what good Italian is, thanks to Ciccione's that was here before.
What makes Antonio's so frustrating is that I suspect that the new owners did not do their homework when they made plans to open this place. They knew that "some Italian place" was here before, and thought that a replica of their Greensboro restaurant "Luigi's" would suffice. Almost like an insult to the intelligence of the local community. I guess they thought we would all be ignorant of what good Italian is. I think the so far less-than-favorable reviews are showing them...
Read moreI am re-writing my first review of Antonio's because I feel like its truly grown since its first few years in Lewisville. My criticisms of the restaurant always had to do with consistency and some interesting pricing. Although Antonio's is still priced on the higher side compared to its competition the food is now consistently excellent which makes it a much better value. The dishes are coming out quicker than they did and the wait staff is much improved over my last several visits. The have better specials than before and the lunch menu has several excellent pasta dishes for 12 dollars or less which makes them a steal for the quality. The new soup menu is fantastic and I hope they continue these as there is a large demand for good soup in the Clemmons/Lewisville area. The tomato basil in particular is probably the best I've had anywhere that I can recall. The Chicken Piccata, Chicken parm, Pasta Toscana, and Marsala are all particularly delicious pasta dishes. The pizza has always been great as well. The Garlic Knotts are incredible and the fried ravioli appetizers are tasty too. They have Peroni which is my absolute favorite beer and on Mondays they have half priced bottles which is a great. I hope they keep this up because they seem to have settled in to a really nice groove and I love having this kind of quality dine in option in the Lewisville area. If you haven't visited Antonio' or its been a while since they checked them out, I suggest you give them a...
Read moreTonight, I was part of a huge dinner party at Antonio's Italian Restaurant in Lewisville, NC, commemorating the Reagan High School Color Guard athletes and their end of season. It was busy. So busy because of us but the staff was AMAZING. They worked so hard tonight not only serving our party of over 23 people but every other patron that walked in. My food was great so, I look forward to coming back with my family to try more. The girls did like their food as well, bonus. Thank you to Rizik, for taking on the huge amount of teen girls eating and just having fun and being just absolutely the friendlies multilingual person I've ever met, keep showing your beautiful smile and being you, it's a treat. Chelsea for being a patient host and taking care of all the patrons without skipping a beat, you are amazing. Carissa, and I know I'm missing one more, Ashley, I think, with your beautiful musical family, I'm so sorry the name has escaped me but you are amazing and incrediblyfriendly and talented. You were all amazing and patient, and so graceful attending to all of us with a smile. It was awesome getting to know some of you even if just a little glimpse. I wish you all the best in your professional careers, and to Anthonios restaurant more business for being such gracious host. What an amazing small town to live in and know we can be treated so well in our own little restaurant. I highly recommend Antonio's Italian Restaurant not only for its food but superb...
