Edit: I exchanged a few emails with Melanie and came back this AM to give it another shot. I tried for the Chemex again, and they delivered! Now, just to be clear, they have other brewing methods that are dialed in and apparently very few (if any) customers as for brews from the Chemex. I'll give another pourover a try the next time we stop in.
So half of my issue with my last experience was me kind of going "off menu" with my order, possibly creating an unfair situation for Edison. This am was pretty quiet, and my daughter loved her hot chocolate.
Service was really great (and quick!) this am and people were friendly and helpful.
Old review for context: Tl;dr: this place can pull a decent shot, but if you are not looking for an espresso-based drink, go to one of the other local chains within a 5-10 minute drive of this place for better variety, better service, and better coffee.
It pains me to say that I’d rather go to the Starbucks down the road if I am in the need for a coffee.
The staff is nice, but performance wise, this independent shop is well below other local shops in the area for speed and variety of offerings. My conversation this morning started with me asking them what they were doing in the Chemex this am. He told me it would be 20-25 minutes to get coffee from the Chemex. 20-25 minutes?? There was one order in front of me (with four drinks that really seemed to frazzle the baristas), so I’m not sure if they had to go to the other independent coffee store to buy a Chemex or what…. Then I asked about what they could do in a pour-over. I’m more of a fan of the South American coffees. They had a Guatemalan, but he said “I don’t have it dialed in, so honestly all I can do right now is a Kenyan.” -__-
I could see the instructions to dial it in right behind the counter. It just felt like this place should just be a cafe with an espresso machine, not a “coffee company.” Other shops in the area will give you choices of 3-6 varieties and tell them what their favorite is. Much better experience, and also, delivered to me in 5-7 mins.
I ordered a cappuccino, which was good. Ambience was good. Decor is good. Food looked good, but I did not try any. Really bummed with the...
Read moreCappuccino was nicely done with a pretty leaf decor and good foam. The service was friendly and inviting through my order process. However, the food was not good at all. The oatmeal was instant, and of bad quality. It is served raw with hot water poured on it. They didn't even bother to make sure it was finished before giving it to me. It just stayed that way the whole time I was there. My 2 year old, who absolutely loves oatmeal wouldn't even eat it. The ham and cheese croissant was not fresh. The croissant was kind of burned and smashed and it just made a mess all over the place. It was served with brown apple slices. Like how hard is it to fresh slice an apple when someone orders it? I really wanted to like this place since it's right on the way to the park when I walk my children, but I see no point in returning here. It would be really nice to have an authentic coffee house that serves real food along with great coffee that is not super expensive. The 2 stars are for my coffee and the nice girl that took my order after that it all went downhill. I came in with my 8 month old and my 2 year old and I still had to leave them at the table to walk up to the counter to get my own food. It really is in the little things that people do that make you want to come back. Seeing a mother with young children and offering to walk 10 feet to bring them food would have been such a simple gesture. The other annoying thing and perhaps this was because the croissant was so messy was the only napkins were these tiny little squares and the were not even on my table, I had to keep getting up to go to the water table to get one. Get...
Read moreI come here almost every Friday night. I work at a hospital and Friday nights before I go in, I like to sit and enjoy coffee. I've noticed an attitude problem that I think is an underlying issue. Tonight was really disappointing to me. I came in ready to order my usual. Two guys in front of me were taking a really long time to order. But there were 3 baristas all focused on these two guys who had a million questions about pie. I waited behind these gentlemen for exactly 8 minutes and gave up and turned to go find a seat. Frustrated, I kind of slammed my book on the table. I looked in the reflection of the window and noticed two baristas just staring at me and whispering to one another. I figured at least one of them would have come by, noticed that I had been in the line all that time, and urged to take my order. Unfortunately that did not happen and there was no such reaction. The baristas went straight back to attending these two gentlemen. About 2 minutes later, a couple walked in and the two baristas that had noticed me walk away quickly attended to this couple. I got up and walked out the back door and went to Starbucks. It was really disappointing. Former Friday nights, some of the baristas will not smile, not be so welcoming, have annoyed mannerisms at making my drink and I genuinely feel bad because I know how it feels to work closing shift so I figured that's why they're not so approachable. I noticed that this location switches employees frequently so I'm not sure if it's frustrated new employees who are slow to detail but they definitely need to work on their customer service tactics. Delicious coffee,...
