We loved our recent visit to The Mixto Cuisine. It is a true gem in Libertyville. They've been opened about one year and they are really a great addition to the area. The food is fresh, expertly prepared, and they offer a lot of healthy choices. My husband and I visited on a Sunday evening and our service was prompt and attentive. Stephanie offered suggestions from the menu and informed us of the specials. We tried the cracker flatbread with pesto, basil and tomatoes, it was super delicious. Then for our entrees, I ordered the apple salad with a housemade blueberry vinaigrette dressing and added blackened chicken. It was so freshly prepared and I was impressed that the quinoa in the salad was toasted - what a great and original twist! I also appreciated that the pecans in the salad weren't sweetened or candy-coated. My husband ordered the pepper steak and his dish was excellent as well with fresh vegetables and perfectly cooked steak and rice. We could not stop raving about the food to Stephanie and Oscar the co-chef - it's a family-run business so dad Martin and son Oscar are cooking and Stephanie is serving. It is high-end food in an unassuming location. It's a little off the main road in a strip mall but don't let that deter you. The attention to detail is wonderful. We shared that we've been trying to cut back on calories and make healthier choices and Oscar offered a complimentary slice of coconut yogurt pie for dessert. It was absolutely fantastic. It was served with a homemade raspberry sauce and the pie itself wasn't overly sweet and the raspberry sauce had just enough sweetness to compliment the pie. There were even bits of coconut in the crust! It was really amazing. We will be coming back and recommending this...
Read moreThis is my first review of "The Mixto Cuisine" restaurant for dinner on a Friday night around 5pm. My 1 star rating reflects several disappointments.
The prices are WAY TOO EXPENSIVE!!! Each entree is overpriced by at least $5 to $7. For example, a grilled chicken sandwich and some chips was $17. Their pasta dishes without any protein were greater than $22.
If I'm going to pay those type of fancy prices, there should be linen tablecloths, and a much better interior than ceramic tile topped tables. Also, the background music and the air conditioner blower were too loud to have an easy conversation. There was no carpeting or cloth curtains to deaden the background noise.
My grilled chicken sandwich was served on a piece of paper in a black basket just like in a hot dog joint. When trying to cut my sandwich, I pierced the paper and my knife went all the way down to the table top (through the basket gaps). I'm not sure how sanitary this was. If you get a get a sandwich there, ask for it to be served on a ceramic plate...you should get that anyways for the prices you pay. See photo.
In all fairness, the sandwich tasted good and the server was pleasant.
Bottom line: I doubt if I'll be back. Noisy restaurants that are over-priced with plain interiors and cutesy serving methods are not my bread and butter,...
Read moreThe Nashville chicken sandwich is absolutely not Nashville, it's buffalo and not really even good buffalo at that. It's like if you dumped Frank's on a piece of fried chicken and called it Nashville. It's not necessarily bad, but it's not Nashville. Breading was soggy too, not crispy at all. I wasn't going to say anything until I saw someone give it 5 stars while mentioning the "Nashville" chicken and I just couldn't sit by and let a crime like that go unnoticed. I can't comment on the rest of the food, but if you want an actual Nashville hot chicken sandwich, this is not the place. If you want a soggy buffalo chicken sandwich for 15 bucks, then this IS your place. The employees are very friendly, so I feel a little bad giving it a low score, but the people need to know the truth about this "Nashville" chicken. Definition of mid
Update: I literally just went to Nashville on a trip, had multiple different Nashville hot sandwiches, including Hattie B's, and I just want to 100% confirm that mixto has absolutely no idea what Nashville hot is. Not even remotely close. It's hot garbage, not...
