If you want whole snapper this is the only place to come, the whole fish is fresh that day and cooked to perfection, and the coleslaw they give with it is something special, really there is nothing you can ho wrong with here all the fish how ever prepared is delicious and fresh, so if your in the mood for something from the sea go to Papa's and you will not be dissapointed. And also all the servers there are great, social, fast, knowledgeable, and make you feel at home!!
I am updating this review as of Sunday October 12th, I am bc what happened tonight I never would of thought would happen a papa's raw bar, not only was the food very under the status quo but the service was just horrible, so we eat every Monday at Papa's to watch MNF and get the whole fish and fresh catch franchisees over pasta it is our Monday ritual, and we love it the staff is awesome, the food awesome and you can relax eat and watch football...this week we went on Sunday now Papa's closes earlier so when we got there at 810 they let us know last call was at 830 and we we a ok with it, its slow season and restaurants need watch labor when its slow...we were good we knew exactly what we were getting, we were seated and the manager( not the usual guy on Monday this guy was different...Monday guy is the best) didnt even acknowledge us he only said right in front of us to the host you told them 830 right like ye was mad we sat, after she said yes he still didnt acknowledge us he just walked away shaking his head...we sat from 812 to 822 before someone came over to us and when they did no name just hey friend we have last call at 830 was his opening remarks...we said nonproblem and gave our order right away, the server seemed very disengaged and almost mad he had another table, as he walked away with our food and drink order my wife tried to add a salad and he still kept walking we had to wait for him to come back with drinks to add the salad...again he said if we want desert we need to let him know now unless we get the key lime or Reese then its ok...again very brash....so 8 min later my wifes pasta and fish came out dry as can be...he put it down and walked away my wife tried to ask about the salad and he didnt even stop he talked as he walked saying yeah I'll go get it...5 min later came back with it when she told him the pasta was dry he said let me see if I can do anything..if you can do anything??..wow..10 mon later he came back with sauce..our drinks now empty for 7 min.. another waiter noticed and came over and asked if we needed refills my wife said no she needs the waiter bc she had a problem with the dish...he asked if we knew his name we said No he never told us...the problem was weather right or wrong the fish on her plate was not the same quality as mine or what she gets everywhere she was sure it was the wrong fish for it tasted different looked different and regardless of anything was not tasty at all...when the server came back instead of trying to get to the bottom of the problem or fix it, he isnstead argued with my wife for 3 min that she was wrong, he was right, the fish was right, she didnt know what she was talking about ect...now were not gonna get i to fish here the problem is the purpose of restraunts are to provide amazing hospitality to their guest not everyone will like all dishes and opinions are like you know we all have them but he had zero hospitality he did nothing to fix problem, offered no solution, no option but to tell a guest they are crazy and the food is right..what he didnt understand is the customer at the end of the day did not like the dish who cares what she thinks you fix that problem by making the guest happy not telling them dont eat..he really dropped the ball bc he could of fixed the problem and made her happy instead he had a blank measuring contest..and at the end of the day all of us in hospitality know the customer is right and our job is to fix the problem not make it worse...luckily Troy had Sara their bc she came in and let...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSadly, my friends and also my boyfriend and I dine here frequently. But the service has gone downhill at an excellerated rate. Every time I go in it seems to be a server's 1st day even though they've waited on me in the past. From not knowing what's on the menu, what drinks you serve, to condiments you have in the building. Last night was by far the worst. My Boyfriend and I were sat and waited legit 10 minutes that I counted, before having to go to the host stand and ask for a server. A table was sat 5 minutes behind us and had their appetizer while I was walking past them to ask for a server. Casey was her name, came to the table offered some excuse...then took our order. I asked for extra lime with the cocktails. None was brought. I asked for siracha like I always do with my sushi. We ordered a fish dip which we usually get with flatbreads and wantons. It didnt have the wontons.. the manager told us we should have been asked when she dropped it then Casey proceeded with another excuse saying it always comes with flat breads wantons are a special request only. When I 1st asked for the siracha she said no problem. Sushi was dropped, and 10 minutes later when she arrived and we didn't eat the sushi yet and ask for sracha again she said they don't have it. I thought to myself well how do you make spicy mayol? Well I said I requested often and it's usually at the server station. She said might have some somewhere. But will have to search for it. But probably not. Then she appeared with it saying she found some hidden in the kitchen. Then we didn't see her for a good 15 minutes or so and we needed a refill on our drink. Refills came. Yup...no lime at all. Had to ask again. Too much to keep going on. But very disappointing as the food is amazing the atmosphere is amazing. I'm in the restaurant industry myself and have been for a very long time so I know what it takes and I'm also very lenient when it comes to imperfect service however this is a little ridiculous. My boyfriend and also my friends that I come there with are also in the service industry so we like to consider ourselves laid back and forgiving. but last night really prompted a review as I seldom leave these. You need to get it...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI would give this place a solid 3.5. I would have loved to have given them a 4 rating but there were a few to many things that could not be overlooked for my review. I was visiting out of town and looking for a restaurant who served the best fried snapper in town. All reviews pointed to papa's. And the reviews were accurate the whole Snapper was fresh and absolutely fried to perfection. The presentation of the fish was on point too. However, there were a few cons that took away from my dining experience.
They only had a 3.9 lb snapper for my party of 2. That's a huge fish for just two people and at $18.99 a pound pretty pricey not to come with any sides.
2.5 star service* When seated we weren't offered water. I had to ask for it at the end of my meal and it came out in worn glasses that were busted around the rim. See šø. All the food came out at different times and not all at once. (French fries, salad, Snapper) It would have been nice if everything came out at once. For the price point of the meal it would have been nice if the resturant served bread or chips and fish dip, something complimentary considering the wait for your food could take a bit since it's cooked fresh.
Conclusion: Everything we ordered was delicious and tasted fresh. The food quality and preparation is on point. However, Is it really worth it if everything else is lacking - ambiance, service, thoughtfully composed hospitality.
Would I return yes but with managed...
