We stopped by The Lobster Boat in Litchfield New Hampshire for a casual family dinner, and overall, it was a pleasant experience with some great highlights and a few areas that could use improvement.
The lobster bisque was pretty decent—creamy, warm, and flavorful. A comforting way to start the meal.
We ordered the Fisherman’s Platter to split, and while the fried haddock was solid and the scallops were good (not phenomenal but certainly not bad), the fried clams were a disappointment. They were listed as whole bellies, but either the bellies were missing or they were the smallest I’ve ever seen. For fried clam lovers—looking at you Clam Box—this part didn’t quite hit the mark.
The shrimp were small and basic, and everything on the platter seemed to be seasoned the same way. It all blended together with no real variation between the items. A bit more differentiation in seasoning or flavor could go a long way. The dipping sauces were standard—tartar sauce, cocktail sauce, or a slightly horseradishy cocktail sauce—but again, nothing was uniquely paired to enhance each item.
That said, the kids’ meals were a bright spot. At just six dollars each, they’re a fantastic value. One of my kids got the chicken finger platter, another had buttery noodles, and the third went with Kraft mac and cheese. All three were happy and finished their meals, which says a lot.
Dessert was excellent. The cheesecake was rich and delicious, and the chocolate cake was an even bigger hit. Large portions and full of flavor made for a perfect sweet ending.
All in all, The Lobster Boat delivers a family friendly experience with good service, great dessert, and unbeatable kids’ meal pricing. With some tweaks to the seafood seasoning and a bit more care on the clams, this place could really shine. We’ll definitely be back—for the bisque, the cake, and the...
Read moreI ordered through Door Dash, so I can't give an opinion on the atmosphere.
The food was awesome, and even though I had it delivered, it was obvious that they took care in preparing our meals for travel.
It was my boyfriend's birthday, and I requested extra strawberries on his cheesecake. They not only gave him extra strawberries, but his cheesecake came with a birthday candle in it! How thoughtful was that?!
We had a scallops and shrimp combo and a lobster and steak tip combo. Both of us opted for coleslaw and baked potato, and we got an order of onion nuggets.
The coleslaw was very good. So good, in fact, I may order extra next time. Steak tips were perfectly cooked, and the seafood was delicious.
Onion nuggets are the center of the onion instead of the rings, and they are a favorite! I don't know of any other restaurants that offer them.
Of course, the cheesecake was tasty, too! They put the toppings (strawberries and whipped cream) in little containers so that you can put them on yourself as you like.
It definitely won't be our last order from the Lobster Boat in Litchfield, but we'd like to visit on person the next chance we get. I highly recommend them for seafood and steak as well! Oh, and the Coleslaw is a winner, too!
Sorry, no pictures. We were well into our meals before I thought of it....
Read moreThis restaurant needs to use humans instead of their electronic seating system. We arrived at 6 30pm (to celebrate my grandson's 9th birthday--he wanted a lobster dinner), was told a 45min wait and my hubby used their text program or whatever it's called and after 45mins he got notification our table for 8was ready. When we went in the girl at front desk "oh sorry we notified you by accident" and that it'd be another 15mins bc they "just needed to clean up a bit" so then the wait time on the program my hubby used said it was 14mins, then 17mins then 20, 22, all the way to 30 mins more to wait, for 15mins of "cleaning up a bit"....??? And other parties without loud and restless kids came after us and got seated. Yeah, So needless to say, WE LEFT after nearly 90 mins of waiting with three STARVING children. We went to Rocco's, no wait, got right in and even though they to were short staffed, you wouldn't have known it. So very disappointing that my grandson couldn't have lobster on his birthday Because as you know there aren't many seafood places to eat at nearby where you can get a whole cooked lobster dinner. So needless to say I will NOT attempt to go to The Lobster Boat Litchfield, ever again. But your neighbors at Rocco's, SAVED THE BIRTHDAY. Thumbs...
