Zini's Restaurant — Restaurant in Litchfield

Let me preface this review by saying to anyone reading - the food and location are excellent! I've visited on slow days for lunch over the Summer, and you'll scarcely find a better meal in the area! I would still recommend Zini's wholeheartedly. However, my experience yesterday evening was a bit disappointing by comparison, and may help readers here with considerations to set realistic expectations about best times and nights to visit.

My wife and I visited with her family (5 people total) for dinner on Saturday night. It was her birthday weekend, so we made a reservation somewhere that we were confident I had the great food I described above. However, after our 6:15 p.m. seating and order shortly thereafter, we waited over an hour for the food. And that wouldn't be as huge an issue, but after finishing our water and the bottle of wine we ordered during that time, we received very little server attention, and no updates about the status of our meal until I asked around 7:30 p.m, and it arrived shortly thereafter. While there were a few issues with respect to plating requests, the food was great, as expected, and dessert was prompt.

It seemed clear that the staff was unexpectedly busy with a full house of guests, but it was still disappointing that there was little proactive communication about the status of our food, or the check-ins that one might expect for a ~$70/pp dinner.

I'll definitely be stopping by in the future, but with a bit more proactivity & specificity on my part to plan for timing accordingly. I hope to update this review...

We had a delicious dinner with friends. Our friends from Wethersfield enjoyed it so much that they would like to eat here again soon. We enjoyed a variety of appetizers, calamari, artichoke hearts and the chicken soup. All were perfection. Our salads made with Seasonal greens were fresh all the lettuces were fresh. The salads were lightly dressed to enhance the flavor of the greens. Entrees were a delight. Three people ordered the combination platter and all raved and took home …..dare I say it….doggie bags. We had a party of 5 adults and the service was good. All the staff were polite & well informed about the menu. The food was fine, although I thought my dish(broiled red snapper with spinach & a garnish of cheese) was a little odd to have a big pile of mashed potatoes and a tiny sample of fresh sauteed veggies on the plate.Had I known I would have wanted only the delightful fresh veggies. The desserts & apps were great. I was sad no one ever offered us wine. We had an odd family group gathered to mourn deceased family and a few bottles of wine would have added a lot to our comfort level.
