A-1 Pizza — Restaurant in Little Compton

First impression the place was very clean in the front and back. We got a small pizza, chicken tenders, french fries and a ham and cheese hoagie. I did not eat the small pizza so I can't really tell you how that tasted but it didn't look like anything too special. The chicken tenders and fries are pretty standard. The ham and cheese Hoagie I ordered with mayonnaise but it also had oil on it. I really wasn't that impressed with it to be honest with you. Okay now for the good part. If I could put a title on this review it would be called napkin Nazis! So we're sitting down we're waiting for our food and we look around for some napkins and there wasn't any. So I proceeded to the counter to get a napkin for my daughter she asked me how many and I really wasn't interested in counting how many napkins I needed I just wanted some napkins but then the lady started explaining to me how to open the napkin and make it bigger so that we would get more space out of it. I'm just like give me the napkins so I can go sit back down. This has always been my absolute favorite pizza place. Today I asked to have my pizza “extra crispy”. I saw it come out of the oven and reminded the person cooking. She forgot and put it back in the oven. After a few minutes she took it out of the oven and put it in a box. I asked if she could cook it a bit longer. She refused saying “5 extra minutes was all.” I asked again to cook it a bit longer and was handed the pizza with her telling me that was all I would get for a “well done” pizza. I asked her if the customer was ever right as they were going to eat the pizza. She absolutely refused to cook it any longer, turned her back on me and I heard “Have a nice day.” I told her this WAS my favorite pizza place but her unacceptable attitude and poor customer service will prevent me from ever going back. We live in Dallas but we come up every other summer to stay for a few weeks and no visit would be complete without a trip to A-1 Pizza. It's simply the best homemade pizza I've ever had; including authentic New York and Chicago pizza. The crust has just enough crunch and chew to it that it doesn't get soggy five minutes after getting it. The cheese they use isn't salty so you get all the richness of good mozzarella without the spike in blood pressure. Last, but not least, is the sauce. A perfect blend of sweet and tangy, it balances out the cheese and crust without overwhelming them. These folks really know what they're doing and it shows. The service is also top notch without being self congratulatory.
