For the election, I was trying to find someplace to watch the returns come in and saw that WWT was having a "watch party." I had seen WWT before and have thought it may be a cool place to catch a live band or show, i thought this was the perfect opportunity to check it out. I was surprised when I walked into learn that it was a total "dive bar," which I am totally cool with. It was packed! I thought "what a fun place to watch the returns!" They had CNN on all the TVs and the place was hopping!
It didn't take long to figure out that I was in the minority politically, but I didn't care. I was just there to mind my business, grab a drink, some food, and watch the election results. I finally grabbed an open seat at the bar and sat quietly drinking my beer, eating a burger, and watching. With the crowd though, several people would crowd in next to me to order drinks, no problem, totally understandable. But here is where it turned south... A young lady scooted in next to me to place an order and began to make casual conversation while she waited. In this brief 5 minute exchange, she realized that we weren't on the same "side" of the election, grabbed her drink and left. There was no arguing or debating or any confrontation, she just walked away. I don't know if it was just coincidence, or if she went back and told her friends of my existence, but shortly after, tow more young ladies came to the same spot where she stood, to order drinks, I thought, but they made some rather aggressive comments towards me and my "politics." My only response to this was to say, "That's not accurate."
They left. I turned back to the bar and asked the bartender for another beer, to which he responded, "You're done!"
"Huh?" I said. I hadn't been there that long and only had a few beers, so I had no idea what he was talking about.
He looked at me again and said, (and this is what really baffled me) "YOU DON'T BELONG HERE! CAN'T YOU SEE THAT? NOW PAY YOU'RE TAB AND LEAVE! I'M NOT SERVING YOU!"
I couldn't believe what I was hearing! I literally had done nothing, but respond to others who had initiated conversation with me, and those were not aggressive (on either side), nor loud, nor any other egregious behavior. And I was being asked to leave???
The information about the watch party I found made no mention that this was a "Democrat" or "Republican" watch party and definitely didn't say that anyone wasn't welcome.
If you haven't figured it out, this place is the epitome of what's wrong with our country. We cannot discuss our disagreements constructively and cannot even tolerate someone with differing views. I will not be back to WWT. I have never been treated with such disrespect and will not patronize any place that promotes or allows customers to be treated in such fashion.
In response: You DO allow harassment, and in my case, you kicked out the VICTIM of the harassment, as I did not initiate ANY conversations, nor did I do or say anything remotely considered harassment. My only mistake was having a differing view that was not welcome in your...
Read moreIf you want an extremely upbeat club style sweaty bodies grinding. Two extremely loud bass from some hip hop artists that had top chart singles for strippers to dance to kind of place..... Then stay the hell away from White Water tavern. if you're looking for a extremely mixed diverse group of people from the poorest to the richest black white Hispanic Asian it doesn't matter they're all there they all mix and mingle and it's still the coolest group of people working and patrons you will find in a bar in Arkansas. Matt white and his gang new they wanted that bar when they were young and have done beyond expectations now that they run it. you will not find a more diverse or down-to-earth group of people patrons and employees alike. oh and did I mention is also the greatest venue for local or live music around. one night you might have Billie Joe Armstrong planking away is greatest country tunes with rhinestone dancing, and the next night could be a 80 style punk band with girls with short black hair and torn black stockings even though they're new. but there is never one set group or click... You got hipsters, hip hopster, rhinestones and diamonds. Mohawks to mullets, cowboy boots to no shoes. I've been going there 15 years and have never once seen a fight. between the atmosphere, the live music, and Matt and his crews undying dedication to make the place great, you will not find a better place to buy beer and have a good time then white...
Read moreStopped by one Monday night on a business trip after being recommended by the folks at a downtown pizza place. The place is not easy to find and is tucked away intentionally near a railroad bridge. I was immediately struck by the crowd - nearly every male had a beard and looked either hippie, biker, or homeless. They ranged from very young (21+) to mature (55+). There were 15 people at first, and more piled in later.
Everyone was very friendly to me and I had no trouble making conversation with strangers. I was kind of miffed by the prices for well drinks ($4.50 for house bourbon and coke), so I switched to longneck PBR for $1.50 since apparently it's the beer of choice of that crowd. The building is very dark inside, but is actually decorated very in a trendy way. They make no effort to cover up graffiti and it has an overall well-worn homey feel. No live music that night, but would be a great place to see some. ...
