Had reservations for a party of 8 at 3pm for lunch. Arrived at 2:40pm, nothing was prepared, staff acted clueless. Was seated initially and got drinks. Waitress did not tell us how the menu worked dinner vs lunch. The dinner menu clearly was label items in the correct column. After all of our table decided put our order in, waitress finally told us the rules of how what options are available. They stated that the food in the squares was only available at dinner. They said it was a "Corporate problem with the design of the menu". If there is an issue with design with the menu, then inform the public.. 🤯😤 Which made our group change majority of they're orders. Asked to make some substitutes, suprised that was allowed, even if items were out of stock (will probably overcharge regardless). Cameron is the supervisor that had to come in and fix all our orders and talk over the waitress- very unprofessional. All our orders are wrong for the table, made us wait even longer. Fountain pop was all flat and un-drinkable. Asked for water, still got charged for pop. Hamburgers came out well under medium or not even close COMMUNICATION WITHT STAFF AND KITCHEN NOR MANAGERMENT!!! When food came out, cold as hell. Gnats and Flys all around the dinning room, can't imagine the state of the rest of the kitchen 🤢 Was a absolute disaster 🤬Will never be returning. Regret the time we were here and didn't tip. Really didn't understand the necessity for reservations when the place is dead and is overstaffed and just standing around

If you love dry food and terrible prices then the Rock House Restaurant is for you! On my honeymoon with my wife and we stopped here for lunch. Ordered a pulled pork sandwich and a chicken bacon ranch sandwich and soft drinks because their water tastes like toilet water. Our bill was $60 for food that should be thrown in the garbage. The food looks great but tastes like cardboard. The old lady hostess asks us if we have a reservation when there was no one even sitting there and proceeded to us the they were super busy and reservations were preferred. Then made us stand there for 5 minutes as she finished her conversation with a coworker. 👌 Then our waitress was nice but that was it. I think she stopped at our table three times and the last one was to drop off the check. Gotta love that. This place feels like they want to be a fancy restaurant by giving a nice views and outrageous food prices but falls short due to food worse than McDonald’s and an atmosphere of a gas station bathroom. Thankfully there are other great restaurants in this area to eat at instead. I’d never recommend this place to anyone coming to Hocking Hills

We stayed at the Lodge and being as this area is quite remote we are at the Rock House Restaurant two nights in a row. They require reservations and it’s very easy to get a time reserved. I was nervous dining as there were not too many other people there dining as well for a weekend and the reviews weren’t kind! Well, my husband and I enjoyed everything we ate. He had the pasta and meatballs, and the pork chop night two. I had the salmon and the steak and the salmon was perfectly cooked! We had a brownie for dessert and some cocktails and all was very good! The restaurant is clearly short staffed like the rest of the lodge. Understandable that it’s hard to maintain staff. This place overall was quite nice and we were shocked more people were not here. Hopefully they can get some more staff hired and get some better crowds because it was a great place to spend a weekend and the food was pretty good!

We were deeply disappointed by our recent experience at this restaurant. As a family, we arrived looking forward to a pleasant meal, only to be denied service with a series of shifting excuses that felt inconsistent and, frankly, biased.

The receptionist’s attitude was dismissive from the beginning, and the manager’s handling of the situation only made things worse. Instead of offering solutions or hospitality, we were met with coldness and a lack of professionalism.

It’s surprising to encounter this level of exclusion in a place that promotes itself as welcoming. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this restaurant under any circumstances. There are many other places that actually respect and value their guests—this is not one of them.

Response

Good morning Mr. Tucker,

Thank you for your note. I appreciate your willingness to review the matter further.

We visited your restaurant on Saturday, September 28, 2025, at approximately 1:00 PM. Our party consisted of 8 adults and 8 children. • Initial request: We asked if we could be seated as a group. We were told that the restaurant does not cater to groups of that size, which we understood. • Follow-up request: We then asked if we could instead be seated as four separate families at different tables. This was also denied. When we asked for the reasoning, we received several different explanations—among them that a reservation was required, despite the restaurant being nearly empty at the time. • Staff involved: • The receptionist was a younger staff member, black hair, appeared to be wearing makeup. • The manager who came over was approximately 5’8” with blondish hair. Unfortunately, we did not catch either of their names.

We left disappointed by both the lack of consistency in the reasons given and the way the situation was handled. What stood out most was that no alternative or accommodation was offered, even after we scaled down our request.

I hope this additional information helps with your review, and I would appreciate learning what actions you intend to take so other families do not have the same...

As a fellow restaurant owner, I truly understand that things can go wrong and I always try to give the benefit of the doubt. It takes a lot for me to leave a negative review—but I hope this helps others avoid the experience we had.

From the moment we walked in, it felt like amateur hour. The staff was friendly, but everything seemed chaotic. We arrived early and had a drink at the bar. The bartender was nice but clearly overwhelmed, even venting about the kitchen and saying she’d been in tears the other day. While sitting there, we watched at least three tables dealing with problems with their orders. That should’ve been our cue to leave—but we stayed.

Once seated, our server took our drink orders. I asked for a margarita. It finally arrived about 15 minutes later. We placed our food orders, and then waited over 30 minutes for them to arrive. Meanwhile, another nearby table was complaining to the manager.

To be fair, the food wasn’t bad—the crab cakes were actually pretty tasty. But the experience went downhill fast from there.

When the bill came, we were stunned to see $42 charged for two margaritas. The server never asked what type of tequila I preferred, so I assumed it would be a house margarita. Instead, she rang in Jose Cuervo Blanco—something I would never knowingly pay $21 each for. I had to walk up to the hostess just to request a manager, who finally came over after dealing with yet another complaint. I pointed out the charge and made it clear I never would've ordered those drinks at that price. He made excuses at first but did end up discounting them by 50% since the server hadn’t asked.

We sat there for quite a while waiting to settle the check. Eventually, we just left cash on the table and got out. And yes—I still tipped 18%, which is more than I ever would've expected for this level of service back when I waited tables.

Tourists beware: The Rock House is poorly managed, chaotic, and overpriced. Make sure you double-check your bill—because they’re clearly...

From the moment we stepped into the Rockhouse restaurant at the Lodge at Hocking Hills, we were captivated by the charming ambiance and welcoming atmosphere. However, it was our server, Sophie, who truly transformed our dining experience into something magical.

Sophie greeted us with a radiant smile that could light up the entire room. Her warmth and enthusiasm were palpable, making us feel like the most important guests in the establishment. She was not just a server; she was a culinary ambassador, guiding us through the menu with expert knowledge and genuine passion. Her recommendations were spot-on, showcasing the best of what Rockhouse has to offer.

Throughout our meal, Sophie displayed an impeccable attention to detail. She anticipated our needs before we even had to ask, ensuring our glasses were never empty and our plates were perfectly timed. Her delightful demeanor and engaging conversation made us feel like we were dining with an old friend rather than a server.

The food was extraordinary, but Sophie’s exceptional service elevated our experience to new heights. She took the time to share little stories about the dishes and the ingredients, which made each bite even more enjoyable. It was clear that she truly cared about our experience and wanted us to savor every moment.

As we concluded our meal, Sophie surprised us with a complimentary dessert, which was a sweet gesture that left us utterly delighted. It’s rare to encounter someone with such genuine dedication to their craft, and we felt incredibly fortunate to have had Sophie as our server.

In short, Sophie is a shining star at Rockhouse restaurant. Her combination of professionalism, warmth, and charisma transformed our visit into a memorable celebration. We left not only with full bellies but also with full hearts, already planning our next visit, all in hopes of being welcomed by her radiant smile once again. Thank you, Sophie, for making our dining...
