Park at the Lodge, go to the RIGHT of the building, down a staircase and to a walking path behind the building to the trail head.
This is a much shorter and more accessible way to get to Whispering Cave than the whispering cave trail head which is near Old Man's. Sharp decline (about 150 steps) from the lodge to join up with the actual trail. Maybe half mile to cave from there with some additional elevation change. I'm a 40+ overweight guy and handled it OK, just a little rough coming back up.
The Hemlock trail splits off down to the bottom of the gorge. It's pretty boring, including the bridge itself.
But the whispering cave and trail going to it is awesome....
