Appalachian Outpost, West Virginia. Your new favorite family vacation spot. Where to stay, where to play, and our 3 day itinerary 👇. WHERE to stay: The cabins at @appalachianoutpost. These new cabins sleep 8, with three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a full kitchen (some cabins pet friendly!). On property restaurant, UTV rentals, gas station and stores! Great location, right off the Rockhouse ATV trails, and hours from Washington DC, Baltimore, MD, and Philadelphia, PA. Day 1: *Check into the cabins at @appalachianoutpost. *Visit Outpost Outfitters, the on site store for souvenirs or any gear you might need for the trails. *Rent an UTV from @baccountry and head out on the connected @hatfield.mccoy.trails, with over 1000 miles of off-road trails. *Have dinner at Broken Axle Restaurant. Some of the best southern comfort food we’ve tried. I suggest the deep fried buffalo mac wrap, fried green tomatoes, and pepperoni rolls. Day 2- *Coffee and frappes at Red Bird Cafe *Visit Chief Logan State Park. We loved the Cliffside Loop trail, their museum, and their wildlife exhibit. *Have lunch at the Parkway Drive in. Get lunch delivered right to your car or inside. Try the homemade dumplings! *Visit the Hatfield Homeplace museum to learn more about the famous Hatfield-McCoy feud. If you’re lucky, you’ll get to meet Jack Hatfield, the great great great grandson of Devil Anse Hatfield himself! He had so many cool stories for us. *Visit the Hatfield Cemetery *Have dinner at Broken Axle. Try some of the local brews (I loved the Devil Anse IPA from @greenbriervalleybrewingco) and play a couple of games of pool. *Get ice cream at Red Bird Cafe *Watch a movie and play the arcade games at Fountain Place Cinema. They have UNLIMITED popcorn and soda, how cool is that? Day 3- *Visit Nu-Era Bakery, home to some of the most delicious pastries and cakes. They’d been using their delicious homemade recipes for 84 years! *Visit Country Road’s Byway Visitor Center to learn more about the history of the area (this was a great stop for a quick homeschool lesson!) #AlmostHeaven #WVTourismPartner @WVtourism @appalachianoutpost #appalachianoutpost

I definitely recommend coming here! The food was amazing, so many beers on tap, the staff was so friendly. You can definitely tell that they are understaffed but being in the restaurant business myself I can’t help but appreciate the great work they do. Service is definitely a little slow but they make up for it with amazing service and amazing food! I was never disappointed in a meal here, we stayed at Appalachian Outpost and having this restaurant on site was definitely one of the best perks, after riding all day coming here for a cold drink and great food was awesome! We went every night it was open while we were there, they remembered us, remembered that it was my birthday & they gave us a free dessert! I couldn’t recommend this place more! The waffle on the dessert menu is probably the best thing I have ever tasted !!!

Ate here on 3/15, sat down at 7:50pm. 3 other tables were sitting in the restaurant. We were handed menus by a lady and was told to pass them around. A waiter came over and ordered drinks and food again at 750pm. We were never told they were behind in the kitchen..nothing. 850 comes and we ask about our food and kept having to go back to the bar to get drink refills as waiter never checked on us. We would go to the bar and he would be texting on his phone. We walked by the kitchen several times and our pretzel appetizer sat there for 20 min before it was brought to us at 915pm. At 920 pm...guests who sat after us received their food...again..noone came and apologized or explained to us what was going on. At 930pm our food finally arrived. We had been sitting for almost 2 hours...the food was mediocre...cheese on tater totally laked flavor, the pineapple and chicken was basically canned pineapple with a couple small pieces of chicken. At 950...we asked for our check..again had to go to the bar to get...the manager offered a table beside us free appetizers due to the wait..again...we were never addressed. When checking out I asked the owner "Lea" if something could be taken off our bill for the 2 hr wait. She responded "I cant be expected to fully staff on a weekday". We are renting cabins and rentals from appalachian outpost and BAC rentals and they have been so nice and amazing. She was so rude to me and our whole party. She gave us 10% off...never apologized for anything. Gave me the rudest looks and told me she was the Owner of Broken Axle and Appalachian Outpost. This experience with her was awful...thats not the way to treat guests. I dont see this business surviving...we come to WV to ride all the time and I will tell all of our groups to avoid this place. Shame on...

Was really disappointed mainly in the "owner" Leah. When a customer has a problem with their food, you still treat them with respect and try you best not to give them dirty looks as you walk away from them. You should know as an owner to try and resolve the issue if you want to keep customers coming back. The restaurant wasn't busy but it still took an hour to get our food out and on top of this several of our bills were incorrect/overcharged. Keep an eye out for that. I only hope the real owners sees all the complaints about "Leah" and make corrections, if so this could be a...
