Read moreLast night we ordered out from Ship Bottom Shellfish. Tonight we ordered from Pinky's. BTW - we have been homeowners in LBI for over 33 years. As a point of reference, I don't know too much about Pinky's, but I have ordered for years from Ship Bottom Shellfish. Importantly, the owner and manager at Ship Bottom is grumpy so I don't like ordering from a place where I don't like the owner.
From Pinky's, we ordered crabcake meals (2 per order) and 2 blackened salmon dinners. Also, we ordered fried onion rings and fries as a decadent treat The order cost us $93.25.
At Ship Bottom Shellfish, (last night) we ordered crab cakes (one over Caesar salad and the other a sandwich). We also ordered one fried oyster dinner. (the portions were small, but it was very good). The order for 3 people was $66.00 (basically the same per person).
We were not disappointed with Ship Bottom. We were disappointed with Pinky's.
I will not elaborate on Ship Bottom Shellfish, but suffice to say that we were pleased with the quality and quantity and will go back...as we always do...despite the grumpy owner.
Tonight's meal at Pinky's was disappointing. Disappointing enough that we may not go back. The crab cakes were loaded with crab, just like Ship Bottom's, but the flavor could not compare. The crab cakes were dry and overcooked. Importantly, they came with no side orders so you needed to pay extra for the side orders. The salmon meals were completely different. One was very thin and the other was very thick. We ordered it rare, the thin one (as you would expect) was well overdone and the thick order was OK. The portions were skimpy.
Bottom line...I will not order again from Pinky's...except when I am tired of going to Ship Bottom Shellfish. I really wish there was more takeout...
Read moreOnly the tourists rate this above 3 stars! Every year or 2 we decide to try pinkys again and this was probably the worst yet. We placed an order for a cod sandwich, a crab cake sandwich and 12 fried shrimp (their "specialty"). Upon ordering one person said 35 minutes while the one next to her said an hour. We were assured we would recieve notification via our cell when the order was ready. We decided to run to the store for stuff for the house. About an hour later i went back and asked what the order status was. Apparently they forgot to notify us. I took my semi warm food and left. I wish that was the bad part. The cod was a decent size but extremely bland and the overly salted tarter sauce didn't help. As for the shrimp, they were also very bland, on the small side and worse, extremely overcooked. The crab cake was decent and the fries were the shining star. For the tourists, they forgot utensils, napkins and ketchup so make sure you ask. All in all, with an island full of decent places to eat don't waste your time...
