As a high-functioning mild autism senior art student in Csulb, I am giving this one star due to lack of communication, helping the disabled students, lack of student life resolving issue, lack protections for disable students especially when they experience being harass, humiliated, discriminated by BMAC, student life assistant dean.
I was being bullied by a female asian student at art building last year of spring because of another student. this bully went to made report to the police and lie. instead of helping me here, I was being discriminated, bmac don't help me with this problem, instead, art department interm dean brought it to student life assistant dean, without aware and knowing that I am high-functioning mild autism. this type of disability should not able give a misconduct to kick out a disable student because the bully didn't get what she want. stupid! when I was used to work as student government officer with a dean in student life at community college. I never experienced anything because they are aware of this. , but this one, BMAC and student life assistant dean retaliates and blame me. For not behaving? Huh, nonsense. If they know that I am high-functioning mild autism? They just ignore it, they did not listen. at all, now, most of professor hates me and take side the bully who is not even disable. this very stupid !
student life assistant dean must step down! Because she doesn’t know what is the high-functioning mild autism especially this type of thing, has issues with social cues and lack of attention need to understand for disabled students! She should be not harm , stressing them out, and should be not allowed humiliating. Her way is wrong! She should email it to the bully not ME!
In positive side, some professors are nice but some are not. Just the student life dean is sucks, lack issues in BMAc, art building, and more needs better improvements and should treat the high-functioning mild autism students nicely and not to harass them
Overall, I am going to give them a one star this university . Because the resources has very poor quality services to help foreign students and local students and they helping the immature students (high school behavior ) to get transfer students to get trouble by giving us a warming. This should reverse the disciplinary probation to these bullies who being here so long than students who transferred from other community college.
please stay away from this school because they don't know how to help...
Read moreTo start, I have designated a 3.5 star rating attributed to the university as a whole.
Now that this is out of the way, I am pleased to inform you that for the money, you will receive a quality education here. I graduated in December 2014 with a BA in Environmental Science and Policy, and I can honestly aver that I had (on average) really great professors (professor quality could vary based on your academic focus). I studied for five years here, and am now on my way to UC Irvine to complete my Masters.
While there are many notable strengths as far as educational inquiry is concerned, the university itself falls short of (ideally) the entire college experience. Is this a commuter school? Yes. Does school spirit lack? From my experience, yes. Is social life lacking (aka. the party scene)? From an observational basis, yes (way more than what you will find at universities such as USC and UCSB). Is parking atrocious (see other reviews)? Indeed, but that ultimately depends on the time you plan to park.
If there is one piece of advice I have for incoming freshman, it is to take advantage of any opportunities the university has to offer. Whether that is to join a club, frat/sorority, organization, cause, (etc.) is completely up to you. Engagement outside the classroom will help mitigate the effects of what I like to call "commuter syndrome." Make no mistake, CSULB is deemed a commuter school by most, so become proactive if you can.
Overall, there's a lot to like about CSULB: good professors, friendly people, an exceptional athletics program, a nice campus, and an exquisite Japanese Garden. Just be aware of the...
Read moreWhen I was in high school, I was only allowed to apply to two schools that my parents chose. One of them was CSUF and the other was CSULB. I was mopey for awhile because I really wanted to go to schools like UCLA or UCSB, but I guess my parents' wishes were a blessing in disguise. I am currently a sophomore, and am grateful that I am a 49er! (I heard the mascot is changing, so I'm not sure if this comment will be relevant in the near future). I can say that 90% of the professors that I had were spectacular! They all want the best for their students, and you can always meet up with them for help in office hours or by appointment. Also, unlike other colleges that I have visited, CSULB has a very unique mellow atmosphere. Everyone is so down to earth and so... mellow. There really is no better word to describe this school. It's most likely because there are trees and foliage everywhere. The campus is relatively large as well, but there are shuttles that come around every fifteen minutes or so, which transport students around campus. 'Tis very helpful. The only critique I can make is that CSULB needs more parking spaces. Finding a parking space early in the morning is easy peasy, but it takes me at least half an hour (if I'm lucky) to find a space past 11 A.M.! Other than that, the school is amazing. It's filled with many opportunities to get involved and meet new people, has convenience stores scattered all around campus so procrastinators can purchase green books and scantrons five minutes before class, and employs hundreds of faculty members whose job is to help every student succeed. Choose the Beach! You...
