Was a decent BBQ. The hostess/server was rather unpleasant and if she smiled, I think her face would crack. Not the welcoming feeling you want for the house of the restaurant. They sat us at a high top, which I specifically asked for dining room when making reservations, so I asked to be reseated in the dining room not bar area. I did feel bad since the bar tender was also our server so she had to keep running from bar to dining area. I was unaware she'd have to do that otherwise I'd asked to sit in low table of bar area... our server though was friendly pleasant despite the hustling back and forth.
FOOD: Definitely lightly smoke flavor throughout all the dishes and meats. Got a few apps, the burnt ends were decent. Expected more than like 8 tiny peices for the price and they weren't like the meaty fatty burnt ends I'd expect from a " burnt ends".... Hushpuppies were ok. Not my favorite but my hubby seemed to like them. My daughter ordered the beet salad which was tasty and fresh. The entrées were decent size for the price. I ordered 2 meat tray my hubby ordered 3 meat and the kids had the half rack ribs and strip steak. All meats were good. Pulled pork was better than the brisket imo. Chicken was nice but could use a hint of salt or pre flavir brining prior to smoking, also, definitely smoky but kinda too pink soo was questionable to enjoy. SIDES: BBQ beans were flavourful. Slaw was fresh and blandly seasoned. Was ok but wasn't a fan. The steak was Slightly overcooked but had a good flavor. The ribs were smoky and meaty. The house sauce was good. A spicier version or hot sauce would be a nice addition.
Was overall a decent meal. If was in the area, I wouldn't turn down dining there but I wouldn't say I would travel there specifically for it. Also will set you back quite a bit as a family imo.
One last mention; Table water was disgusting. Tasted like warm swamp/ pond water. I understand it's tap and room temp but a filter would be beneficial. Was un-drinkable. Felt a forced need for alternative drink solutions therefore allow more profit for bar items ( even just ice tea or non alcohol tabs) Speaking of iced tea.. literally 90% ice and maybe 4 oz of tea, therfore needed more...
Read more2025 Edit: We returned recently and this place deserves an updated review. The menu has since taken a slightly Asian turn and honestly everything was delicious. The duck fried rice is insane, the five spice onion rings were delicious. I like that there’s a barbecue sampler option as an appetizer, it’s the perfect amount for just one person when you want to get sides not included with the platters. Also really loved the burnt ends. The value and quality is definitely worth it and I’m glad we came back.
My husband and I are quite serious about our barbecue so we were very excited to try this new spot! Our server was lovely and knew the menu well. We got a variety of things to try.
I got the brisket, with crunchy asparagus and macaroni and cheese. The server asked if I wanted my brisket lean or fatty. I wasn’t sure what that meant as we’re used to places just giving you a slab of it. So I said a little of both would be good. I wish I said fatty. The lean brisket was dry and not very flavorful. The asparagus was okay but also lacking flavor, like it was all in the crunch but the crunch was hard to eat with bites of asparagus. The mac and cheese was good, thick and cheesy.
My husband got a three meat platter with pastrami, chicken, and brisket. The pastrami is INCREDIBLE. Literally sooo flavorful and tender. The chicken was okay, the skin wasn’t crispy nor was the fat rendered from it so it was kinda just blubbery. His sides were beans, cornbread, and fries. All were good. The fries had a nice kick.
Overall a decent spot that I’m sure will get even better with time. I do think the prices are a little much. Our food and one soda with tip was like 90 dollars which was shocking for barbecue considering the state’s...
Read moreI was pleasantly surprised with my order. I’m glad I didn’t read others reviews because I probably would not have tried this establishment. So here it goes:
Location: not horrible, but parking is a great challenge. I ordered take out, I basically ran in and out. The proximity to Ft Hamilton worked for me, less than a 15 min drive.
Venue: can’t really judge as I didn’t fully walk through the restaurant but appeared very country kitchen looking.
Online ordering: was seamless and my order was accurate.
Food: Omg, the burnt tips…… ewww wweee! Truly amazing and topped my top for the last 7 years. Burnt to perfection…lol, tender and juicy. I diced the jalapeños, mixed them in the BBQ sauce and dipped my life away. They are great and worth catering!
Ribs: were good, not great. I like trying food with and without sauce and they taste much better with the sauce. Not dried or overcooked like other reviewers commented.
Collard Greens: very good. I usually don’t order greens out side of my home but they were really good. I actually had a few fork fulls while driving.. lol
Mac n cheese: blah! Probably the only previous comment I agree on, it is bland. It’s not baked Mac n cheese though. I would suggest, if keeping this in the menu they should add jalapeño cheese and that would make it pop. If not, consider baked Mac n cheese cause the spirals weren’t a hit. It was very Boston Market.
Corn bread: kind of heavy but it was ok.
Drinks: wish I could’ve tried them as I did notice a drink menu but I was in uniform so that’s not allowed.
Definitely will patronize Fletchers as much as possible when I’m in NY and will spread the word. My hungry soul is more than...
